What you need is a bargaining chip! I told my hubby that he could have wood ducks if I could have geese. Worked like a charm!

Lol my hubby doesn't really care for the critters lol

so can't really bargain there

Luckly to wife they pretty much all look the same, well I guess she would know the differance in geese or quail but oh well. Lol
As soon as I figure where to put them I will probably get some.

You too, I layed in bed last night with my blackberry on BYC and when I finally put it down I layed there for about 20min. Trying to convince myself I don't need geese either.

That's what I do too! Just get them! However, when hubby gets something that doesn't make sense to me -- I congratulate him on his purchase and encourage him to enjoy it. That's how I use my bargaining chip!!

That way, he doesn't complain about what I get and I don't complain about what he gets. It works out great!

Twiley, do you have a pond for your geese? I'm narrowing down how I want my pond built and I am still looking for more ideas.

Anyone else have a pond for their ducks or geese?

I don't have a pond for my geese. I hope to sometime in the future. I use those plastic kiddie pools. My husband puts a drain spout on it for me so that I can let out the nasty water. I have to change the water often. They really foul up the pool. After one day the water is dirty; two days it's nasty; by day three it looks like sewer water. I try my best to change their water every other day. On the small plastic pools, I change the water everyday. You can also use those tubs that are used to mix concrete. When I can't find a plastic pool to buy I'll buy one of those for them.

I totally agree! Plus, not many people can really resist a baby animal of any kind because they are so cute. Just don't tell them that they will make a poopy mess everywhere. Especially geese!!

Ok. Right now I have 3 of the kiddie pools that you are talking about. My ducks and geese get it all dirty as you described. I try to change it out daily. However, I will sometimes let it go for 2 days but no longer than that. They can smell the fresh water when I get out there to change it. They come running over and stand in line before they dive in. The geese WILL NOT let anyone near the pools until they have bathed in it. So that leaves the ducks with the left overs (second hand water use). But it's ok, they don't complain.

I will be having a pond dug that is no more than 3 feet deep. It will be small but still big enough for more of them to get in and actually swim. With the pools, they are able to bathe but not able to swim. I want to see them swim.
