Subject: Caponizing, you can order a caponizing kit that comes with all the tools, instructions, all you need is a 4 to 8 week old roo, I Goggled it and located a kit, I am planning on doing it in the fall to all the roos I hatch starting in Sept. This one is at Efowl.com

Have you done any or is this future plans? I have many extra roo's that age right now. I also have eggs in the incubator. I may try on the ones that haven't hatched yet. I know Linda tried and hasn't tried again she was unsuccessful. Forever Learning a dr told me she didn't want to do it because they are tiny and hard to find. Pam

Lol quail make alot of poop! I bet u would too if you grew as fast as they do! I been thinkn too that quail may be a more marketable product, in my neighborhood for example, pickeled stuff is popular, and where making back my investment is Not my goal, i could always use more money. I think that the diff meat would be nice, but ive never even tried it.
Do yall cull your "fart" eggs? Or call em edible?
Thanks u guys for not making me feel like an idiot while teaching me so much!

I know someone that raises Quail. They do quite well selling them and selling pickeled eggs. But and there is a but she doesn't like them. She doesn't like the abundance of poop. They eat a lot and can start to eat each other if they are hungry and food isn't around. They don't eat them but sell to people who do.
Some fart eggs have a yolk some don't they are edible I toss the ones with no yolks but I see no reason you can't eat them without the yolk. Pam

Melissa, great to have you. I've been missing in action for a while. I've been making the decision to get rid of my chickens or most for a while. I think I'll get more after I get back from Vancouver Wa to visit my daughter in Sept. Traded two of my coops for having my handyman to build me two 4 x 8 garden beds 24" tall. I'll put strawbales in it for a while and then putting in soil. Another fellow bought my XW white rock rooster and 8 hens. He came back and got my big coop today. I have my new coop still and will have a place for new ones later. The 21 babies (almost 3 wks old) will be given to Jipus Jennifer in Minden. Along with the new hatchlings (9) in the incubator. She's coming after them today. She'll get the Blosl rooster and 2 XW hens for a start. She really raises roosters to process and sell so this is what she needs. I've never had anyone come to my place that didn't love the whites.

Topgun, so totally jealous of your garden. I'm getting such a late start this year but the year in weather seems to be late also. Still very spring like.

Pam, I'm still coming on here even if I give my chicken raising a break for now. Great friends on here. I love all you folks.

Ive been learing about carponizing for a bigger freezer camp, is there anyone around here(baton rouge greater area these days) who does it? I can and will even travel a little bit for good instruction
I've done a lot of reading on it and bought the caponizing set from China. It's the one that Poco Rollo ordered on the caponizing site above.. I won't be using it but if you decide it's what you want, let me know and I'll sell ;you the double set Small for regular small chickens 8-10 wks old and the larger one for big chickens. I wouldn't do anything over 10 wks old before you get a LOT of experience. I never had any roosters the right age to practive on. I did use it on one of my grown roosters when I processed him. But he was dead first. That's what I suggest. And boy was that a botches job. I'd do a lot better now. On the caponizing page go to the top and click in the three dots on the number page. Then type page 109. This will get you the best way in pictures to do this. Kassaundra and Poco will help you a lot. I missed her seminor for caponizing last year. Just couldn't travel to Oklahoma. Stay in touch
