I think I've got a second broody on my hands. Strongly considering just converting the base of the brooder (I got from TD) into a broody barn. That would certainly simplify my life.

Update: the marans collected a giant clutch and then switched nests. Six days on the first clutch. A yound sussex was on the nest last night, but she's out ranging today. If she's on it tonight I'll try moving her to the new broody suite. If not, guess I'll use that clutch to bait the possum trap.

Hey Pam. My cockerels have been trying to breed the pullets. They been giving them a hard time the past couple weeks.

How far behind do you think the females are? I know the males are just hitting puberty and hit this stage earlier than the females.
They are a little over four months old now. Maybe I'll have eggs at or around 6 months. What do you think?

7 to 8 months for the line you got from me. I've read on the other thread the 2009 line mature faster but not much. I told you that wAs three only drawback.

Yea I know. I don't mind them maturing later than others. Don't know what I'm gonna do with all the **** eggs anyway. I can't eat'em all.

I'm getting ready to butcher the Cornish X I have. They are at 12 weeks now. The males are huge

I butchered more of my sister's extra cockerels on Saturday. Hard to beat free chickens.

I told her to keep hatching

Some of her birds must have silkie in them because there were a couple with very dark, almost black skin.
One of the CX looked to be going down hill on me so I did him also. The carcass was huge. Wish I had some scales to see what they weigh.

I get some pics in the next day or two.
