"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Why does my hen have bumblefoot?

Have you treated it? Use gloves, Betadine, and a biopsi punch. Make sure to get all of it out bandage with nonstick gause then cover with vet wrap.It is caused by splinters from the roost most of the time. It also could be she cut her foot some how then it became infected. Most the time it's the roost. Pam

Hasn't the weather been nice. Such a reprieve from the oven.

I guess you haven't had any more pred problems. At least I hope not

Nope, not since the raccoon. I dumped the body in "the boneyard" and it's just bones and fur now. Not even the stink is left. I'm still working on coop training, though. Every night I have to put about 8 girls back in the coop. No more tree sleepers, though. :D

My Easter babies all turn 5 mos next week, so I'm hoping for eggs before too much longer. I've never added lighting to the coop, but I'm getting tempted.

I'll put some pics!!

DH moved the camp tractor over to the yard. Introductions!

Hey those are great pics. I was wondering how your keets are doing. Been meaning to ask. They look good and so cute.(Makes me want some. Don't tempt me

) You birds look nice and healthy. I'm glad you haven't had any more nighttime attacks.

Things are going good here. The birds are doing well. Out of 11 pullets they laid 9 eggs today for the first time. The little Barbezieux are growing fast. They're growing so much faster than the Bieles.
I've been cutting small trees, saplings, and cleaning up brush around my place. I really want to build another coop and breeding pens and eventually a perimeter fence with a hot wire on top but it may be awhile before I do any of that. Materials cost so much as you know. It's so frustrating not to be able to build what we need or want for our chickens.

Glad to hear your doing well

The sussex hens had hidden a nest that the possums found. I'm still get 3-4 eggs from 6 hens, but I can't find the new hidden nest. There are too many of the to leave in the coop full time, so maybe I'll try to just keep the hens penned up tomorrow.

My marans went broody twice this year, but the coon got her. I had one sussex go broody and she was an excellent mother. Only recently started laying again. Nobody's missing, though, so I don't think anyone is setting. Yet. ;)
