I am offically calling out for help. I have lost 11/24 and im getting really upset. I worried after bedding, bulbs, heat, feed.... *sigh*
im at a loss. I will pick up that nuteidrench Today. And Sulfadimethoxine... Im working the problem.
Two of my three chick pens affected. We lost 2/3 and 9/21 from the shed. Those two places are very different in temps, same bedding which is also used for adults. There doesnt seem to be any diahrea, no nasal discharge, or pox spots. I know that pox lives here though, my adults got it over the summer. I hatched all these lil ones, no vacs, and theyre nearly two months old! The bresse are even weaned totally off light! The dead are very skinny, with food and water in their crops. They become super lethargic before dying, and thats why i orig thought it was trampling to kill them. The legrathy starts about 36-48 hrs before becoming lethal. Ive been searching all day and i cant figure it up alone i need yall. Thanks in advance, i know you'll b here for me.[/quote]
That does sounds like cocci with them wasting away like that, except I would expect their crops to be empty. But the sulfadimethoxine does treat quite a few things. That certainly sounds like they have something that it's going to need treatment to stop the deaths. The sulfadimethoxine is easy to use. 1/2 to 1 tsp off the powder to a gallon of water. I used 1tsp and it worked quite well. It should only be used in the young chickens. I believe it's 12 weeks and younger. If you can't find that medication you can use sulmet. From everything I read it's a little harder on their system so that's why I chose to go with the sulfadimethoxine. And I don't know the dosages for the Sulmet.

I have about 36 pullets and hens not laying. No! At least 40. I'm sending 6 or so to freezer camp very soon for one reason or another. But I've not given any supplemental lights this winter. I want a good spring with plenty of eggs and I don't want them worn out already. One of my old lady Cuckoo Marans had given me 3 eggs in the last 8 days. So I think the rest will follow suit in the next few weeks. I do have a few that are finishing some melting. So their energy is busy on that.
Wasn't there SOMEONE on here that lived closer to me? In the Ball/Pineville area??? There are poultry swaps once a month now at the Alexandraia TSC. Most customers that come through are looking for laying hens. So if anyone is interested. You can sell other things too.

Don't know about that one, but TSC Zachary does have corid which I used in the spring for the BLRW chicks that had cocci. It's in a small bag on the back wall. I have the dosage written at home too if you need it.
Im not sure yet, LM says "Powder" Sulfadimethoxine so most likely im not looking hard enough. I will try serching the co-op for powder vs the calf boslus at TS. Ill b in touch! I so appreciate you!!

I guess I'm lucky to still be getting eggs daily. Out of 15 current layers I'm getting 4 to 7 eggs a day. One of my BLRW pullets just started laying a few days ago. I thought for sure it would be spring before any of them started. Go figure.
This is the one we got. It's just powered not tablets. If nothing else you sure could try the Corid.

Have your Barbezieux pullets started laying yet. Aren't yours around 6 months now.
