"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

That's what I was thinking. I have one hen that only tolerates a roo and one other hen that she grew up with, no one else is allowed near her. So I'm going to move the three of them to a smaller cool/run and use their current one for the Breese and Isbars I got from Pam. The. There's no intergration issue with them, but I will have quite a few cuckoo marans and buffs that will have to go into coops/runs with adults. Should be fun...

So what is the "best" age to process Roos? Since I certainly have more than I need I'm probably going to put some in the freezer. A friend told me instead of plucking they just skin them out. Anyone here do that?

A lot do it that way. The Bresse are better in poached cooking so that would be fine. You tube it. The barbs are a roasting bird. As for age younger than puberty or older. Puberty is around 6 months. Pam

I saw the coolest thing ever yesterday evening. I took the afternoon off & took my Mom Christmas shopping. When we returned to the house & were unloading bags, I heard my 3 guineas in my folks' front yard. I drove back to my house, parked & as I was getting out of the car I looked across the 10 acre field & saw the guineas take off from the edge of my folks' house & fly the entire way across the 10 acre field, landing about 12 feet from me. So cool!! They just don't look like they could fly that well. They recognized my car & followed me, then followed me back home. They know I keep scratch grains under the carport & will put some out for them when I see them. They wanted their treats! and they got them, too. I wish I could have caught that on video.

That's so cool! I love watching mine fly. The first time I saw it happen was after we adopted a senior lab. They were all across the road and the dog got after the guineas. They flew back to me, then straight up over my head (I ducked) and they landed in the tippy top of the oak in our front yard.

Only one pick came through! Nice white hen Try again I'd love to see the rest. Pam

I couldn't upload videos last time I tried. But you can do a link if the video is posted somewhere else. Like YouTube or Instagram.

:frow

No deaths in two days :fl that is Over!

Candled the quail eggs i bought at last weeks swap: 45/90 are developing, and altho these numbers arent great im lucky to have any! They were poopy, i didnt inspect them before putting the $ down :(

I see we have a few cold nights ahead. Per the weather channel, Thursday thru Saturday nights will be n the 30s. I have a question about the Breese chicks, they will be 5 weeks old this week (Pam, correct me if I'm wrong) and are living in a coupe inside the chicken house. Do I need to bring them in for these 3 nights?

Yesterday I tried to see if momma broody would take them with her other 2, but so far not. She wasn't mean to them, just not interested.

Glad to hear it, Turk. What did you end of giving them?

Thanks!! Howr all babies!?! I had give em that sulfadimethoxine that Lemon recomended: it was 6$ vs 24$(?something like that) found it on the back wall jus like you said :) its been four days now im so flipn happy it really is over :)

And on the quails note! I hafta tell u guys it was so funny! I confronted the lady who sold me the poopy eggs at the Denham swap yesterday :lau she recognized me an askd how she knew me? I told her "i bought 90 poopy eggs from u last week, half were cracked, theres only 45 alive." She askd me How That couldve happened... So i proceeded to explain how the poop permiated the bloom and poisioned the eggs. Then how the shells are very brittle proving inadequet nutrision... She just Sat Down. I wasnt like "make a Scene" type of mean, i didnt curse her out despite what she deserves, but my words were very pointed. She knew i was right, and i couldve gotten my $ back, but that wasnt my perogitive. I realize that i screwed up in how i didnt look at them on the spot and i accept that.
