"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

I'm refering to marans only. I dry hatch my eggs I'm hatching now they need humidity at lock down. I was told that by a breeder who has top Marans. Pam

Oh yes, I was too! Before I changed humidity at all from regular hatches in the beginning, I was getting all sticky chicks that wouldn't hatch unassisted. So far all are clean now.

I have bantam Japanese eggs that I think would dry out if I didn't add any water. Lol. They are so darn small

I will if no one has taken your offer. I just put mine in a seprate pen so it will be three weeks if your willing to wait. Pam

Yea! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I don't mind waiting at all. Do you want eggs or chicks? I should have about 7 eggs going into lockdown this weekend (yes, lots of staggered hatches so have two incubators now) so could do either one. If you want eggs, I can start collecting the week before you want to meet up for the exchange. All the polish eggs I have put in the incubator have developed well with no clears/quitters/blood rings so good fertility.

I am thinking I want to get B/B/S Ameraucanas. I have been partial to Lavender and Blue colors for several years. I used to have a mix of the following types: Lavender Orpingtons, Buff Orpingtons, OEGB, Silkies, Black Australorps, Barred Rocks, Japanese Bantam, Mille Fleur, Pekin ducks, guineas of all colors and a white peacock. I am sure I missed a breed or two, but it was hard to focus on breeding with so many different ones and I only had 4 pens and didn't want mixed breeds so I got rid of them all and chose to raise four breeds. Buff Orps, guineas, ducks, and silkies. I love Orpingtons because they are very sweet natured and I don't like mean chickens, but I read that the Ameraucanas are gentle. I considered B/B/S Orps too though.

I think Ameraucanas would be a nice choice. I do have to say that temperament depends entirely on the line and individual birds. The meanest bird I have ever owned was a silkie cockerel. He was out for blood from anyone that was within his line of sight. Are you planning to sell chicks/eggs? If you get the real deal, Ameraucanas sell very well. I'm not too sure on the orpingtons simply because they are the chosen breed for the color crazes at the moment

What type of Japanese did you raise? I have a group of blacks that I'm just going into their second generation of breeding with. The young cockerel has a lot of maturing left to do but I think he is a step up from his father

I had black Japanese bantams also. We named a hen Japini and she was adorable. Wow! A mean silkie! I have no problem drop kicking a rooster attacking me. If i dont kill it, i get rid of it quick. Many years ago I was a young naive woman that bought her kids some baby chicks for Easter from a local feed store. They were all mean as heck leghorns. They attacked us bad for no reason so I won't have tolerance for mean ones.:duc
