"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

I can't check in every day...I have to stand out in the pasture like a scarecrow, waving off hawks.....
Last year I ended the winter with 4 chickens...I actually raised a few more than my usual this year, trying to figure in the casualties....I lost 2 so far. I am telling myself that one didn't count because it was a tiny banty chicken someone threw over the fence a month after last easter. I saw a weird mottled thing in the pasture that turned out to be a dead hen with a hawk sitting on it. That hawk didn't take off until I was about 10 feet from it. It was a small hawk, not much larger than the headless bantam. Last year and earlier this year my problem's been a huge redtail who waits until I get pretty close before it leaves.I can tell its strikes because the chickens seem to explode when it hits them.

:hugs have you seen any trouble from the coyotes? Ive heard theyre bad out that way this year.

I could check in everyday but id be talking to myself half the time :(

Coyotes are a problem here, especially along the Comite. I have never had any on my property, probably because of all the other animals roaming my place.

you’re welcome. I loved my WR they laid very frequently and were very docile. Good luck !

Tomorrow marks the 4month mark for my flock and now Im 100% sure the white pullet is a White Rock. Very pleased that my extra chick Meyer sent me was a White Rock. She will be an amazing addition to my flock. It's crazy how fast the ladies are growing up.

I've been weeding my front yard for a minute or two a day and throwing all my weeds to my pullets and they love the fresh greens. I only wish I had the room to free range them, but I'm going to continue trying to give them fresh greens daily to keep their scavenging up and food costs down. How is everyone else's flocks holding up during this mild winter?

Were alright over here. I dont like the cold :rant but tis part of life. Had beeded everyone down on fresh hay in prep.

Got myself a new canning pot last night after i went to get more quail hatching eggs from JMF and he had abuncha extra pickling eggs asked, do i want those too? He doesnt ask enough $ for all his decades of hard work and i always wish id brought more $ with me :he

Here the take

Real deal Canning pot will hold 8 of my pint pickled egg jars at once with a rack for easily bring them out or putting them in :love

How much per jar? The guys at work go nuts for those things. Most like mildly spicy but 2 guys go for the hot ones. The Zachary Fruit Market sometimes carries the quail eggs.
