with fresh baked pone of home-made cornbread(no sugar in mine, please)

good day everone, think I will go check out the green patch this mornin and pull up a wheel barrow or two full for the chickens to munch on today, that should liven up the yard spirits for a while I figure+make those egg yolks orange, orange and thick-thick too.

Jeff

Well that's quite a "green patch," Jeff! Your girls are lucky to get that on such a gray rainy day.

Your garden looks MAGNIFICENT Jeff! Good job. I bet the showers helped it. Those greens would go great in my juicer for my Mean Green Juice Detox drink.

Yeah it all looks a lot better now those pics are afew weeks old on a warm sunny day around 10 o'clock and they would wilt down a little bit. The peppers and me well we all got a surprise OCTOBER frost(strangely enough) and I didn't get them harvested in time so they didn't make it too well but I'm leaving them to dry up on the vine/stalk just to see how they do. I've since mended the ugly fence up some too my rogue swampchickens"swampers" I call them, were busting in a having their fill of the collards, they eat them first. So I had to fix it up a bit better so we all can share them little sneaky/selfish devils,LOL

Good morning everybody! taking a break at work here. We got some rain last night but not nearly enough - need a couple of days' to really soak in.

I'll be more than glad to share figs next year with anybody who wants them - I don't put them up like I used to - gave away a ton of them this year. Our big tree is a Kadota fig - it makes the big white figs, very sweet & juicy. We also have the smaller brown native figs.

Great looking garden Jeff! I just started getting 2013 seed catalogs in the mail so am thinking about the summer garden. Will be time to start seeds in the greenhouse in another few weeks!

Waiting impatiently for some signs of action in the 'bator - this is the hardest part of incubating to me! Good luck with your hatch Mickie!

lol at all the "Purple Peacock" comments! I wish I had a purple peacock too - the real deal not the bar. Mike doesn't Sid in Texas have them?

Oh Terri, I would be more than happy to trade you with whatever you want for some figs. Can you please put me on your list? I would even buy some from you. I want to make some canned figs. :drool

All this talk about gardens, makes me want to start thinking about mine. I'm gonna kill myself if I take on one more project. :/

Terri, here are pics of the lemon juice (from your lemons) cubes that I froze. I had A LOT of juice.

Looks great! I'll be juicing lemons this weekend! Meyer's are the juiciest lemons I've ever seen - they have a ton of seeds but they're worth the effort to de-seed them! It's like fresh eggs - you don't even want to look at store bought after you've had your own.

I have one of those old fashion thingy-ma-jigs where you turn the lemon down and put it on the little notch and turn back and forth and the juice falls in the little tray. Takes less than 10 seconds to juice. Then I pour the juice in the strainer and it catches the seeds. I did the entire bag in about 20 minutes. I thought it was going to take me a long time but it didn't.

My juicer was a wedding present so it's over 30 years old - it's just like the one you have except it's electric! - works great & goes really fast when you have a lot of lemons to juice! I run all of mine through it, start the ice trays going (I have 4 ice trays) & put the rest of the juice in quart jars in the fridge until I can get it all frozen into cubes.

Will be making my Dad a lemon birthday cake Friday - he'll turn 80 this Saturday & lemon's his favorite (mine, too)!

Love me some Meyers. Someone gave me that Idea a couple years ago with the cubes. I never would have thought of it. works good though and convenient. The place that we use to by our christmas tree from he had Meyer Lemons and I would buy a grocery bag full.

Nice garden catdaddy, Have you ever made Cha Cha with hot peppers? If not I got a heck of a recipe that I use, I think anyone would like if you like hot stuff.
