Just wanted to pass this along. Their are a couple new APA Poultry clubs that have recently started here in Louisiana. I am a member of the newly founded Southern Louisiana Poultry Breeders Association (SLPBA) http://www.holdenrabbitranch.com/southernlouisianapoultrybreedersassociation/ .
Their is also the Central Louisiana Poultry Club http://clpoultryclub.wix.com/mainpage#!map/c12iy.
Our goal for the SLPBA is to give members of the poultry community in Southern Louisiana the ability to exhibit their poultry and fowl in local APA sanctioned shows. We plan to have 2 APA sanctioned shows per year as well as several smaller club shows.
Membership is: 20/year for individuals
12/yr for junior members
35/yr or family memberships
Contact Carrie at [email protected] for more information or an enrollment form.

Thanks and have a great weekend everybody!
Heading to your neck of the woods kuntrygurl, going to Evangeline Downs for my work Christmas party.
Ok, dying to tell someone and this seemed like the right place. I'm a new chicken owner with 6 pullets and found my first two eggs today!![]()
Not sure will check on that though![]()
Ratites are ostriches & emus, that sort of bird. Big birds!
I was busy with the rabbits today, they are in kindling mode, and was wondering if other La-yers are raising rabbits for meat, too? If so, what breed and why did you choose that breed?![]()
Quite a few years ago I wanted to raise some of those big girls. I went to an ostrich ranch in Robert, LA and observed their set up and bators, and also went to a BarBQ with ostrich burgers (YUM). LSU used to have an ostrich field on Highland Road right by the gates. I got in touch with them to learn more. I went to their offices and saw their bators and those BIG eggs. Before they let me go into the pasture with the ostriches, I had to take off my earrings (ostriches like to peck those) and they told me to not get directly in front of them because they said they would "lay me open from neck to stomach with their BIG front claw." When I got into the pasture, I kept trying to dodge being in front of them. I have to admit I was very AFRAID. I don't know how true all that was, but that was the end of my ostrich dreams. LOL To put everything into perspective, I was afraid of my Black Stars when I got them at 3 weeks old. LOL I told my granddaughter, "these are our chickens now and we cannot be afraid of them." So we petted them and held them until they were calm and we were, too. LOL So, that's the rest of the story. And I want some!!!!!!!!!![]()
