"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Good morning everyone. I have been soooo busy, it took 3 days to get caught up on the thread. Fuzzy butts not so fuzzy any more. They are all just about feathered out. I would love to meet up with y'all but I work weekends. It's hard to get a day off then. I did go by TSC on Saturday in moss bluff but it was late. Hope everyone has a great week.

That was a lot of sand to move!  I need to break down and get sand hauled in.  I'm just dreading the extra labor on top of finishing the other 7 coops I need to build.  Ughhh....so much to do and so little time to do it.

A really good heavy duty rake helps a LOT in spreading that stuff -- but you will be SO glad come hurricane season - it drains so fast & so well! No smelly pens w/sand!

I agree. :thumbsup

Nice!  It looks like it snowed!  LOL  Does it work by the errr....poop washing through the sand and sinking below the sand?  I use river rock and that's exactly what happens, the poop washes through and the rock stays pretty clean.  And, no odor...don't know why, but it's true.  :idunno

Thanks. You are right about how it works. It sinks below. And NO odor. Gotta love it!

Hey y'all,
I'm over here in unincorporated Madisonville. We're brooding our first flock of 6 BO's (got them two weeks ago at o'keefe's) and are in the middle of coop construction. Do any of y'all have words of wisdom to impart that are specific to weather/predators in our area that I should know about before finishing the coop? I'm concerned about the summer heat, especially. Thanks for the advice - I'm sooo enjoying our backyard chicken adventure!!!

Hey ya'll,.. just popped in to let those that are looking for organic feed know that I just spoke with Brandy at Okeefe's Feed and Seed in Covington and she says they are seriously looking into getting some in the store and to check back soon.  Give her a call and let her know that you would be a potential customer!
:weee

Loving this weather!

Terri Ann,.. those Wellies of our's are laying  pretty
dark, reddish brown, speckled eggs,.. and lots of them! Have your's started laying yet?

Good to see you. We missed you. :frow

I think you might be right!!  And don't forget it needs a lawn chair and side table so you can sit in there and monitor their health and stuff.  That's important!

Don't laugh.  I have two lawn chairs and a  side table right in the middle of my chicken yard.  I ran into a friend the other day and said, "hey, why don't you come over.  We can kick back,  sit in the chicken yard and feed the girls some grapes."  She said, "do you realize how really wierd that sounds?"  I guess I didn't or I wouldn't have said it. LOL  I was serious.  Really, what could be better?  Under the big oak tree, next to my beginning gardens, sipping a cold beverage, feeding grapes to chickens and watching the bunnies play.  What could be better than that?  Really!

I thought it was just me that had lawn chairs in the chicken yard. :lau

And have been looking to put more chairs in there. :gig
