I have had one of
those days today! It started with busting my finger open and breaking a knife and a pair of meat scissors while processing the last of the meat birds for the year. Then my truck got stuck because some brilliant kid on the street thought that it was a great idea to bring the 4 wheeler down to the end of the road and remove the gravel. I got my truck unstuck and went a whole 3 feet before my inner tie rod snapped off, just hanging there in front of my tire. My truck was in the middle of the road blocking off the only spot for the school bus to turn around (narrow road and a dead end). I was laying in the middle of the road trying to figure out what tools I needed when I figured out that my "great" neighbors had borrowed and forgot to return every socket over 1/4! I have bad luck with cotter pins and this was all caused by the loss of one and a nut. I got the truck fixed and moved it out of the way just as the school bus came barreling threw. I swear she does a turn at 60mph, I know it's not possible but it sure does seem like it. When I get back I find my smallest chick dragging her leg, so I check on her. The leg is cold where the good one is warm and it's not broken, I think she needs vitamins (part silkie). Then I notice a nice red mite crawling on me! First time with mites so I posted a thread and it was confirmed. I didn't find egg sacks and I checked everyone and not even mamma had mites, so at least that is good. Treated the flock and the coop for the night but I still can't stop scratching! It's like thinking about head lice. I didn't have time to collect eggs today and mamma seems to think she can rear chicks and steal eggs to sit on. The kid (4yr old) thought the dog needed to be painted with the spray can of rubber, no bath will take care of that so it is a shave for winter. I had a cat (I'm allergic to them) and a couple of bunnies (I know nothing about caring for them) dropped off at my door. Wild rabbits and wild birds ate all my kale and cabbage in my garden, and there goes my winter kale soup idea. Then I go inside and find that my hot water heater has stopped working and the chicken stock that I started this morning has boiled down to a crisp in my 2 best stockpots. Can I go to bed and this whole day just have been a dream?
What do I need to know about caring for bunnies and how do I tell male from female?
