"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

I have had one of

those days today! It started with busting my finger open and breaking a knife and a pair of meat scissors while processing the last of the meat birds for the year. Then my truck got stuck because some brilliant kid on the street thought that it was a great idea to bring the 4 wheeler down to the end of the road and remove the gravel. I got my truck unstuck and went a whole 3 feet before my inner tie rod snapped off, just hanging there in front of my tire. My truck was in the middle of the road blocking off the only spot for the school bus to turn around (narrow road and a dead end). I was laying in the middle of the road trying to figure out what tools I needed when I figured out that my "great" neighbors had borrowed and forgot to return every socket over 1/4! I have bad luck with cotter pins and this was all caused by the loss of one and a nut. I got the truck fixed and moved it out of the way just as the school bus came barreling threw. I swear she does a turn at 60mph, I know it's not possible but it sure does seem like it. When I get back I find my smallest chick dragging her leg, so I check on her. The leg is cold where the good one is warm and it's not broken, I think she needs vitamins (part silkie). Then I notice a nice red mite crawling on me! First time with mites so I posted a thread and it was confirmed. I didn't find egg sacks and I checked everyone and not even mamma had mites, so at least that is good. Treated the flock and the coop for the night but I still can't stop scratching! It's like thinking about head lice. I didn't have time to collect eggs today and mamma seems to think she can rear chicks and steal eggs to sit on. The kid (4yr old) thought the dog needed to be painted with the spray can of rubber, no bath will take care of that so it is a shave for winter. I had a cat (I'm allergic to them) and a couple of bunnies (I know nothing about caring for them) dropped off at my door. Wild rabbits and wild birds ate all my kale and cabbage in my garden, and there goes my winter kale soup idea. Then I go inside and find that my hot water heater has stopped working and the chicken stock that I started this morning has boiled down to a crisp in my 2 best stockpots. Can I go to bed and this whole day just have been a dream?
What do I need to know about caring for bunnies and how do I tell male from female?

If I didn't know any better I would think something got a hold of my flock Do they all have to molt at the same time :barnie I only had 5 eggs today.

Thank goodness Jeff once posted that when they molt it will look like a feather pillow exploded in the coop. Well I finally have my first molt (they will be two years old at Easter) and that's what it looks like. Lol

You could write a book on just one day, today. That is unreal!! As to the bunnies. It is hard to sex them until they are a bit older and the vet mis-sexed mine at 6 months. But there are clear close up color fotos on the web. Just google "how to sex a rabbit" or something like that. Rabbits eat hay and for a treat celery is good. Kale, as you sadly know. Not lettuce, especially iceberg. Carrots are okay but it's not good to give them a lot of veggies and fruit, those are just treats. Mostly hay, Timothy hay is best and rabbit pellets which you can get at Walmart or feed store. They need water to digest the food. Mine drink out of a nipple bottle or a bowl just fine. Good luck.

I LOVE the pics of the horses! So beautiful!
The apple cake......I'm going to give that a go tomorrow with my gluten free flour blend. I have the perfect apples waiting on the table.
I just made banana bread a couple days ago. I love it, but certain little people here get annoyed with me if I make it too much. They are weird.
buggles!! Tomorrow HAS TO BE BETTER!! That was truly a day that could test a saint.

We had a nice evening. Meatloaf, broccoli and garlic & herb bread sticks for dinner. The meatloaf is one meat dish that everyone goes back for seconds around here. The topping just makes it perfection!

I how everyone had a great weekend!

pillow exploded more like the whole feather bed looks like someone been plucking birds for Thanksgiving. Going out & get ready for the cold hang some tarps to keep the wind off them bare Butts & backs. Not a good time to be with out a feather coat ladies. Buy eggs from store not happening will find some else were first or do with out! Still getting 5 to 8 a day But the boys or coming in for Thanksgiving & will want Mommas eggs for breakfast!

Ohhh....you have made me feel SO MUCH BETTER!!! Sometimes it feels like you are the only one that has a day from hell!!
You have cheered up MANY people with this post, as well as, given a chuckle here an there. It was one of your good deeds for the day!

On a serious note, I hope your chick is ok.

LOL @ lice...I read the WORD and started itching!! Lice is my "thing"...You know everyone has one...I become COMPLETELY irrational at the thought of lice! It gives me FULL body shivers and at my age, things keep moving once my shivering stops...NOT PRETTY!!!

As far as your bunnies go....don't worry how to tell males and females apart...think of it as a GREAT ADVENTURE!!!!! Kinda like a crap shoot!! You would know in the not too distant future if you had males AND females!!

Just think, you could give bunnies away for Christmas...or with your soap! (Oops...had a moment...Lemon does the soap)

I hope your Saturday improves...it's GOT to!!!

Hey folks! I have Thanksgiving week off and was wondering if there were any swaps this week?

I can give some bunny sexing advice. :) you honestly just look. Pick up your gal or guy, flip them over, and you use your hand to spread the loose skin. It will be very obvious if it is a male or female.

I assumed this, my breeder buck has a huuuuge set you can't miss lol...until I got an "unknown" 4 week old from a long time breeder. I personally haven't looked lol gonna be a breeder either way, good stock, but read it was awhile before one could tell. Now that you stated that, tomorrow Imma have to investigate lol
