"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Hopefully I will see a lot more blue come spring! I have my two older EE's, and five 16 week old birds. Not certain of genders on all but I am sure at least 3/5 are girls. Thanks to this patch of warm I have been getting some eggs lately, but not as many as I should see next spring. Not all hatchery birds are awful! I've had several hatcheries birds that were very nice birds. Hatcheries can be a wonderful option for someone who isn't all that interested in showing. The only problem with hatcheries is the "Americana" thing. When people buy from a hatchery, they naturally feel inclined to think they are actually getting that breed. If you don't mind an EE then a hatchery "americana" can be a good source for blue/green egg layers. I would really love a few Araucanas! I love my Araucana cross and her sassy rumpless butt. I'd love it more if she'd just lay already.

Don't forget the debate on the reds. Those RIR groups get pretty harsh on people that have new hampshire or production reds and call them RIR's. I have found that I like the hatchery and mixed breeds better because some of them are really unique.

I love the fact chicks don't count. My nephew said I was lying when I said I have 4 pullets and 2 hens. The 14 chicks I told him did not count. Now I have 6 of the 14, I will have to count them very soon. :th I have a broody on eggs do the 22nd. Then ...... There is the meaty issue. I hate buying chicken in the store. I am trying to figure of how I can have some Meaties.

:he A large garden, bees, and chickens that I have really fill up my space.

I absolutely adore my production RIR and Black Stars. They are great chickens and great layers. They couldn't win any ribbons, but they won my heart. And, yes, some people got snooty about my production RIR being called a RIR and my Black Stars are so far beneath some people that they won't even acknowledge them at all. Lol. I love my birds and they are beautiful to me.

Didn't he ever hear of Rule 11: if you buy chicks thinking they are a certain breed and they turn out to be another breed, you are not buying more chickens when you buy some of the breed you first intended to buy.

Just Saying.
I LOVE this rule. I think I will make a sign for the barn, just as a reminder.
