Because some people may not like me on this sites putting in my 2 cents. This is one of the reasons I have decided on LA to make my last home, to die on its soil.

Memory: a long time ago, my husband and I drove over the road, as it turned out he hatted the way of life. We only drove 3 1/2 years. We was broke down east bound. We had made it to a rest area before Baton Rouge. A couple pick ups stopped to see if they could help. They were full of family's of people, each truck had trash cans stuffed in the meddle of the humanity full of still live cat fish, crawfish and very very fresh shrimp, burlap bags of oysters, blue crabs, corn and potato's. Other Cars and pickups passed, honking their horns. I5 was the early 80's, no cell phones, the rest area was dry land, that was it. They were going to a party, don't remember what it was for or even if they needed a reason to party, it might have been a church group. The man that spoke to my husband I am sure was Creole or/and Cajun. We sat there for hours, not unusual in those days. A car pulled up while we were waiting, with paper plates of food, the cat fish did not need any sauces it was so good. There was a little of everything, some of it was really hot. I could eat hot then but it was to hot for me. They told me one of them went into a phone and help would be coming, but they were worried we would starve waiting.

This is the way I picture south Louisiana, I have met very few that were not that way of leaning. People that would be worried a stranger would go hungry. You know it is not easy to do what they did for us, a lot of effort went into it. I no longer remember how easy or not to come from the east then turn around to get the food to us.

I have confidence I will meet people, make friends, when I am old my faith tells me, any animals I have will not suffer. There will be angles that will sweep in and wisk my chicken, dogs, and any other creature in my care to their homes were they will be loved as I loved them. And when/if camp freezer is in their future they will be humanly dispatched after a happy life. ( :drool And taste good).

PS: it dose not surprise me to hear of people offering their chicks to someone that suffered a tragedy. It only confers what I believe.

I don't understand I hope nothing I've said has made you feel this way. I thought maybe I missed some post where someone offened you, I don't see any. What you describe in this post of southern hospitatily is what everyone I've come to know on this site is the norm not the exception. We all try to be helpful and kind to one another and to new people that join too. I have found a lot of your post helpful. I like you and think your very brave to change your life and start over in a new place. Pam

X2. I had thought at first something had been posted and removed by admins. - I have missed drama on other threads in the past - but since no one else knows whats going on I am more confused. It would help if you could tell us to help us understand what the problem may be.

While there are some things I definitely would not miss about this state (The heat, the heat, the heat and the humidity) I couldn't imagine living in a lot of the other places where manners are considered rude. I admit to considering Alaska where there are no snakes and no tornadoes, but I don't know if we could ever actually leave.

Thank you all for your support! I only named 4 of my flock and three of those were lost today. I still find it cruel that something killed my chickens and didn't even think to eat it. It would still hurt if they were eaten, but at least I would have understood. I live far enough into the country that no one would notice a missing hawk. My father always told me it wasn't illegal unless you got caught so try hard not to get caught. I have since watched this hawk and must say there is something off about it. Today it has killed three stray cats, my birds, and tried to attack a med stray dog. It has also been what looks like hopping around on the ground quite a bit. Not a single bite from any carcass, just a snapped neck and moved on to the next. It never came back for its kill. When I put all my birds up in the old meat tractor and it killed everything else it could find, it just moved on. If I see it again it won't be visiting anyone anymore.
