"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Well, I've finally had my foot stepped on nice and hard by my 1200 pound gelding. Right on my instep, and, for good measure, when I tried to push him off he leaned on me a little more before moving. To his credit, there was another horse tied next to him that was acting up, and he was trying to get out of the line of fire. Can't yell at him when that happens.

Now to nurse my swollen, bruised foot. I'm not sure if anything is broken or not.

But in good news, I've separated my pekin ducklings from my chicks and the change is astounding. I didn't realize just how loud and messy, though cute, the ducklings were. The chicks are quite mild mannered in comparison.

Hi everyone. My internet didn't let me get on BYC for a bit there but it's working right now. Hopefully it stays that way!

For those of you unaware it has been a very trying last couple of days. My pigmy goat Lola had her babies the day before yesterday and yesterday one of the twins, the smaller doe I had named Eclipse was unable to thrive and despite fighting tooth and nail for her life I lost her.

She was the little black one and her life was brief as an eclipse she was named for.

Her brother is doing well still, and I'm grateful for that.

Tomorrow will be better. Sorry.

Oh man, everybody's getting hurt. Sorry, get better. Maybe it isn't broken.

I know I will miss something I wanted to comment on. Bugglesmommy, so so sad about little Eclipse. It's nice about the little boy. Kuntrygirl, great shot. I was amazed when I killed one a few months ago I shot it straight through the head and still had to shoot it 3 more times to kill it!! Dang. Welcome to LA-yers Catdaddy. We are a nice bunch, hope you hang around. Lol. Seriously, we miss you when you are away. Angel, what a bummer about that sneaky hawk. Under the netting? Really bad!! On a happier note, I love what you do with pallets. Love the peach trees. Thanks to all for the great info from many of you on gardening. I hope to do better this year.
My friend with cancer went into the hospital last week. He might get out Monday afternoon. There was a large musical concert put on to benefit him last Saturday. He couldn't attend but listened to it on the phone and I took videos for him that I took over to the hospital on Saturday. No kidding, it was the best concert I have ever been to in my life. A combination of country, blue grass, and blues. All acoustic in the round. Very moving. The doctors said he was too far along for any treatment so he will be going home to die. Myself and other friends are going to try to keep him at home where he wants to be. He is such a great person, I could not be so gracious under his circumstances, but he always thinks of others and tells great funny stories. It'll be a huge loss.

So much to catch up on.
I hate to hear that ab out everyones losses.
EVERYONE NEEDS TO REMEMBER: EACH SPRING IS WHEN MOST SPECIES/PREDATORS HAVE THEIR BABIES!!!
So they all have babies to feed or are nursing to feed those babies, so they will all take all types of actions to get what they need. So my prayers go up to you all for those critters to find other places to grocery shop!!!!!

Hope everyone is bracing for this cold weather tonight. it is already 36 degrees here now.

SO, I separated the excess roosters from the rest of the flock. They are not happy with me. But, I candled again just before lockdown, and found 9 eggs were dead. The remants of what was inside appeared to be what I saw in pics that showed too many roos/bad regulation of temps. Which is probably true. With that cold snap/warm days we have had, the temps in the house have been hard to regulate since we dont use central air/heat. So I am hopeful for the remaining. It is hard tho, with a still air bator I have to turn the eggs as well by hand. Then with eggs put in every day for the past 18 days, all are at different stages of development. Took me a year, but by last year, I had it down to a science. I am hoping I haven't forgotten some of my tricks.

Primrose I'm sorry to hear about your friend.I am glad he has a friend to be there for him like you. A lot of people stay away for whatever reason. You will go through a lot of emotions. You will give somone the ultimate gift of peace during passing. Not everyone gets that gift! Blessings to you!

High winds knocked our power out again last night. I am SO thankful that it just came back on about 1/2 hour ago.

So all my chicks had to go the entire night, last night without heat. They are all alive. I hope they all keep doing good as they get warmed back up. They are kind of hunched up, but not huddling together. So I guess that is good. The little ones have a feather duster that they snuggle under, so maybe that helped hold their heat in.

I feel like we dodged a bullet

:( sorry to hear about your friend, sux. I'm glad he gets to go home with his loved ones and have company. At this point, its often harder on the survivors. Many people feel death is close and come to terms with it before their loved ones do, therefore being able to relish in better thoughts with the time left. Laugh at the jokes, scold naughtyness and cry in front of them only if they do!
You're amazing helping, making it possible for him even to see a concert in the hospital dealing with docs. <3
