Wretched weather last night. Somehow my storeroom door came open and I'm sure the humidity went through the roof. So this morning another one of my puny Delawares is dead and another is chirping loud. Then quiet. I looked for her and found her on her side almost dead. Brought her in the house and bathed her in warm water and blow dried her. Then I put her in a secluded part of the brooder with some feather dusters. Went back an hour later and all are up and eating. I put some more nutridrench in their water just in case. I bought them at Meyer's and 3 out of 7 of the dels are dead and still could lose her. Golden comets and White rocks are doing great. Reminds me of the Silkies from TSC
So sorry LindaB! This Louisiana humidity is hard to deal with isn't it? I really wanted a container garden problem was all the how to video's were from New England or California so the first year ended with some really great mold, lol! This year I have a better plan for Louisiana humidity - more holes and seperating with 2 containers 1 for water on the outside and the inner on a piece of scrap wood about 3 " high reusing Tidy Cat Buckets. I'm way behind on my reading but were processing some 6 tomorrow <eek>, I will "pluck" my Plucking Cherry! Praying for you and yours.

Thanks, Sweetie, good luck with your plucking.

Such a busy thread the last few days! I think I'm going to read backwards. I did skim over the last couple of pages.

So sorry about the Delaware chicks! It's so sad and frustrating to lose them like that.

The pic with mom and new chicks is adorable! What breed is she? Cutie!

It is very frustrating when people want something for nothing. They just don't realize how much time and money is invested in raising an animal.

Lemon- all I use in my brooders is nipple waterers. I use vitamin water bottles because the cap is sturdy enough to screw the nipples in. I wrap wire around the bottle and use it for a hanger. I either hang them over the side of the short inside brooders (storage bins) or hang them from an eye screw in the larger outdoor brooder. Awesome!
Thanks!

We bought some a few months ago. I really like them. We bought the a few four packs. We screwed a couple in water bottle caps screwed then in 2 quart bottles . Poked a hole in the bottom of the bottle then duct taped it to side or brooder . Today Ron took some more and attached to PVC pipe. I really love not cleaning out the waters 3 to 4 times a day. An no drinking dirty water an less waist. Pam
That is what I am hoping for, no POOP in the water. As well as less waste.

The large buckets that I got already have the nipples installed, so I will only have to figure out the small ones for brooders. Do they really not leak or did either of you have to use silicone to seal it?

And yes, I forked over full price

But I really think if I can get them to catch on it will be much better for their health.

Hey everyone, I just bought two male pygmy goats a couple weeks ago. Anyone have any tips, they have a 20x20 pen fenced in with shelter, water, and hay that I lock them up in at night, also covered with poultry netting, pen I robbbed from my chickens, plus an addition bout 20x30 pen with longer vegetation to eat throughout the day. Does anyone feed grains?
