Speaking of safe places mine have been contained in coop or yard my neighbor saw a coyote yesterday.

Varmits off with there heads! Lol

Yeah, i know what you mean, coyotes will wipe you out, i have never had an attack and dont plan on loosing my flock to predators of any kind, i am very fond of all my birds and will keep them safe by any means.

I let my egg layers Free range and you know I've lost a few but I don't take chances with my rare breeds.And we never had coyotes around here thats more risk than I'm willing to take. Pam

i was afraid of that. We got him from jefferson feed. How can you tell? Also my gf has been looking at all these pics of beautiful birds with like indian headresses kinda. I guess that will be our nextprchase. I originally just wanted free eggs but we are getting chicken crazy, and FAST lol

Welcome aboard, don't be discouraged by your EE, your going to love the crazy, silly, weird, stupid things they do...They add character to the whole flock, and I found them to be more resistant to disease and other conditions that haunt poultry. They are worst than little kids getting into everything. But come night fall, mine are the first back into the coop. Mine are not to predator aware and will walk right into harms way...you might have to watch over them a little closer than most other breeds...but they do react when one gives a warning call to find shelter. They are scaredie cats when it comes to warning cries...As long as you have one good rooster that watches over the flock...the EE are safe.

I have 6 EE, 7 Cuckoo Marans, 6 Gold Laced Wyandotte, 3 Blue Laced Wyandotte, 3 Black Japanese Bantams, 23 Cochin, 1 Blue Marans, 1 Splash, 11 Wheaten Marans, 3 Black Tailed Buff, 30 something plue English LF Orpingtons (I lost count) 25 White Guinea, 4 Pearl Guinea, 1 lavender Guinea, 1 Chocolate Guinea...Ameraucanas, and Auracanas, I've got my hands full.. my last count was 120 birds and maran eggs in the bator. But of all I have, the EE are the most fun to watch....I love seeing them chasing bugs, then they try to talk to you which is even more hilarious...the should be a true breed in themselves because they are sooooooo much fun to watch. You will wind up wanting more to add to your flock..But I do not allow them to breed to the Marans, then you wind up with an Olive Egger and that changes their personality some. Easter Eggers can be so colorful too!!! I love mine and would love to have more....

Wow - I'm so sorry you had a bad experience with yours! I did a lot of research before I bought mine several years ago. When I first started hatching, I had two homemade incubators and then two Hovnabators before getting the Brinsea. I have never had any of the problems you mention with mine & my hatch rates have been outstanding. I've hatched chickens, peacocks & guineas in mine. I also have loaned it out to other people who also had successful hatches with it. There's always pros and cons with any incubator, which is why there are so many types available.
Edited to add, I usually use the dry method of incubation.

I'm glad you did not have the issues I did...it may just be my unit, but I have found others with the same problems with ECO 20 that I have had. I am happier with my home made, It just makes me leary of buying a commercial unit. Ive been doing research I might try a bigger unit next year after the reviews come out. But for the Brinsea, I wont wate my money on again, ive lost several expensive clutches...

Our experince is with the auto advance not the eco. You might have just had a bad unit or they have fixed the issues. Mine came with a year wanrrenty and if you filled it out on line it is extended to 2 years. Sorry you had a bad experince.

Well its not a complete loss for usage, it has played a part in saving a few because the humidity is so low the chicks dry twice as fast.Its only a year old, I never thought about sending it back. I actually bought it straight from Brinsea, ill check into sending it back. I will look into it...Appreciate it.

Concerning Coyotes. you might check with your Animal Control, or local ASPC, a lot of times with coyotes in subdivisions or inside city limits if you trap them, they will work on relocating them. Iowa was overran with them in the city. Everyone in town was losing cats and small dogs. They set out traps, and caught about 6 of them and relocated them. Its just an idea, I live too far out of the city for them to consider getting rid of them, its every farm for itself....But subdivisions are different, it puts children and small pets at risk. Its just an idea especially if you know where their den is...

A different neighbor saw a bobcat about a year ago. I own 5 acres that 4 of them are forest. My girls are not happy being cooped up. I got 2 eggs from 10 that are laying now. Thanks for the tip. I would also put up deer camera , 4 if you have them each directed at your cope. You'll at lest know what's around your cope and if it's opossums coons or skunks you could at least trap them. If you do this attach atlest a 20 ft mininum rope to incase you get a skunk you can drag the cage far off and deal with it without being sprayed. I've done this more times than I can count you just have to wait a few days to get the skunk out but it's worth the trouble make sure you drag it in the opposite direction the wind is blowing

Thanks for the advice. We just bought a security system just haven't had time to install it. I think tomorrow I will make the time. We trap coons and possums all the time. It is something bigger my cat isn't the only one missing my neighbor feeds the strays and some of them are gone too. Thanks Pam
