Click on the link that follows, it takes you to this deal,it is good through Dec 2nd. it has auto egg turner, it costs 103$ including shipping, regulasr price 164 + shipping, i have been looking for quiet awhile and this is the best one for the $, that i have found. here is the link to the site,http://www.flemingoutdoors.com/professional-circulated-air-incubator-with-egg-turner---4200.html http://www.farmandfleet.com/catalog/image.aspx?i=714457
I have one Brensea I use it as an ICU for chicks, otherwise its useless. I lost too many clutches of eggs in it. It is not consistent, and will not keep a decent RH, even a dry hatch stays at 23, with water it jumps to 70 then rapidly drops back to 23 with in 24 hrs forcing me to constantly open and add water. I refuse to by the attachment humidifier. So I use it to dry hatchlings, or keep weak chicks warm till they get on their feed.

The remaining four incubators are homemade, they are made of large food grade sytofoam ice check (used by caterers/shippers) , a light fixture, computer fans, thermostat for hot water heaters, a glass jar for water, and a little giant cradle, wire nuts, and a power cord from old computer tower, extension cord, ect. Total cost using used items $0.00 cradle was $29.99 compared to the 100 to 160 . I might have spent. I keep spare parts on hand incase I have to throw an incubator together real quick. I can make one out of spare extra parts in less than 10 minutes now and never leave the house.

I don't think I will ever buy one unless its a high capacity cabinet style.

Awesome job. I've had better hatch rates since I swapped to dry hatch too. 18/22 last week
Congrats, it make it all worth while. I happy for you, I know the feeling, and yes I think a dry hatch is better in LA. The darker the egg, the better they do, I am just careful with the white eggs, they expel humidity faster. I try to keep like eggs in the same incubator for this reason. Leghorns do better at 55% where I found Marans do better at about 40% till hatch day. Even on hatch day, nature takes over and my RH spikes to 65 before hatch, and sits at about 80% throughout the remaining hatch.

Happy Thanksgiving

What could be better news than more chickens?

I will be happy when we get some black bantam cochins in hand. Working out details on getting a young pair from a breeder here in Louisiana. These will be (hopefully) the addition that my daughter needs for her RED project. We have had a very nice day so far! I hope that LSU doesn't ruin that, haha! Hope you all had a good one.

Good thing I don't live anywhere near @JennieRD who is hatching SO many chicks! I am sure that I could sneak a few home if I did, lol.
At the rate their hatching, I would probably help you sneak them out!.....

The only reason I get away with so many in the incubator is because hypothetically, only 50% of shipped eggs should hatch, not 80-95%. I will seriously have to move some birds in the spring!!

I had a great hatch from one of my incubators, 7 Wheaten Marans, 7 White Rocks, 5 Gold Laced Wyandotte's, 7 Lavender Australorps, 4 Danish Brown Leghorns. Its a good feeling..30 out of 41 hatched......four more incubators to go hatch dates of Dec. 10, 16, and 20th.......All of them did so well using a dry hatch method....No water, humidity has been too high here.Thermostats have been perfect, hope I haven't cursed myself. I still have 41 in one, 41 in another, 24 in another, and 21 in another. My husband has threatened to move me out of the house and into the poultry house with a tv, coffee pot, and couch.....He couldn't stand it, he would end up in there with me.....He enjoys the chicks as much as I do..

This is entirely fabulous Jenny. Love it. I'd love to have your hatch rate but I'm still a beginner so time will tell. Where did you get your White Rocks from? I have great plans for my homestead this year. Wanting to garden, and raise chickie babies. Getting my Blosl rooster this weekend.

A very good price for the amount of information that's available. After building my coop and other stuff I ran out of money on the 10th of the month.

So I'm missing all the Black Friday and Cyber sales. Man I hate that. But you know, I do what I can with what I have. And payday is tommorow. Woohoo.

On the rocks, I will have to wait till I get home. To be honest, right now I cant say. All of mine come from different breeders. The only thing I buy from hatcheries are Easter Eggers. Every Clutch I have incubated as additions to the flocks have come from all over the country,( and always in the form of eggs. I am scared of brining in sick birds). I've gotten them different states, from Florida to California, Washington to North Carolina, and New York. Ill look when I get home this evening.. All of my records are at the house. I've spent my allowance too, at least it goes to a good cause, I stay home, don't run the roads, ect. It's a healthy hobby, and I enjoy it.
...
The biggest lesson I learned in incubating is that NOT all eggs are alike....Dark eggs expel water slower and I do not add water until day 18. Then the RH jumps to 70% I just walk away and don't open the lid till the last one hatches, or day 23 at the latest. White eggs expel water faster so I keep the RH at 50-55% then add a sponge on day 18, close the lid and let them go. The hardest thing to do is keep the lid closed.

I lost a lot of eggs to the advice of keeping the RH at 60%. I was lucky if one hatched. Poor things grew to big, suffocated, or drowned. It wasn't until I studied eggs and RH that I really understood what I was doing. When it comes to Geese and Guinea's , well I still have not mastered the art yet. Except What I have been told is to treat hard shelled eggs, like I do the dark brown eggs.

Your outdoor Temp and Humidity will play a crucial role in your success. weather in Shreveport is completely different than the Gulf Coast. Advice is great, but I suggest finding a clutch of barnyard mixes you can obtain for nothing to incubate before you spend money on any. You can always sell them at a sale barn for a few dollars. Once you find the right RH for your area, and your on track with hatches, then go bye the eggs you really want for your flock. Also with shipped eggs, hatches are better in the colder months, shipped eggs are less likely to start incubation in transit until they reach your incubator.

This is my experience and two cents, happy hatching and good luck with your flock.

Caught up! It took an entire hour of speed reading.

My entire family is pretty sick right now. I'm the worst at the moment. The 3yo was the first to get sick and she is already getting better. The 1yo has just finished the worst part, and I'm on the worst part. My husband is only sniffly! I guess one of us needs to be well lol.
