I fed mine gamebird crumble, so you're ok w/that -- they need a little higher protein level if they're younger -- after that, they'll do fine on their own - my grown ones nibble at the feed in the coop but mostly free range on their own. if it's a female you need a mate for her & I have one or two for you!!! I am so stressing that I'll have to cull one or two of mine in the next couple of months. I don't want to do that. I wish I could either find a couple more females or find homes for 2-3 of these males. I dont' want to get rid of all of them. I want the snake protection.
If she's a female, she'll start making the two-syllable call - that is the surest way I've found to sex them -- she'll say "Ca-PREEk! Ca-PREEK!" the males will not do that.
Well tonight when we closed the coops she, I'm guessing, did several ca- Preeks then make a repetive noise Ca,Ca,Ca,Ca, ,ca... As fast as a automatic gun so funny. The wattle is small and feels more bone then wattles on a chickens. I'll take a male when I'm positive its a female Which should be Soon. Pam
