"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

We did get some hay awhile back. It's not the end of the world. I don't think they are terrible to get rid of. I have DE, but I rarely use it. I really don't think it does much of anything. Especially if the DE gets wet then it's pretty much ineffective. And it's collected using strip mining so I won't ever be buying any again. I bought this bag almost ten years ago. I'm still deciding which treatment route I'm going to use. Going to get after them in a little bit.
I could use Frontline, A livestock powder, ivomec........ Some people use a permethrin in a bottle that is like a hairspray type of can. A shot under each wing. I read that Sevin powder is now not approved for poultry. My vet years ago used Sevin powder on my cockatiels. Seemed like a strong treatment to me at the time. But it worked well and the teil seemed none the worse for the treatment. And there is also the neem oil that I really like and I know it won't hurt anyone. And I could add that to one of the other treatments and use it in the environment as well. I've used the Frontline in the past and it worked wonderful! Very easy too. But I don't want the critters to build up any resistance.

Making quick decisions is not one of my strong points. Haha! And those little lice are SO hard to see on a BUFF bird as they are exactly the same color.

Pam I don't know why the link won't work for you. Seems like I remember you couldn't open it when I posted it before. If you hover your mouse over it and right click to open then I don't know. It works fine for me. The Biele cockerel looks to have good form.

I finally got it open but not translated yet. That's the cock I kept from one of my hatches. He doesn't have any growths on his comb but he has a 50% chance of passing it on. I may mate him to a gff's hen and grow them out to see if he produces any offspring with growth on there combs. Pam

Quote: :) There's not much use in translating using a program because it's still confusing as hell. May as well still be in German for me.

I've read where folks have to treat the whole coop/nest boxes/ roosts ect. Is that necessary to do?
I've also read that if chickens have access to dust bathing they'll naturally keep them in check unless it's a really bad infestation.
I only know what I read so I'm interested in how it will go for you. :)

Thanks for the info. Yes I know Google translate doesn't work I have friends that know German and they have translated something I had Google do before. It was not at all what Google said it was. My new ones from gff's are looking good no growth on them yet knock on wood. I'll get new and better pics shortly. I just sold my first pair to be shipped so I need to order everything I need to ship. Plus get my azure order in. I'll post them later tonight.

Last person that had lice treated their coop birds etc. she was totally grossed out by them. Sometimes thy come with poultry you but and bring home. So always do the quarantine . I know you do that lemon just saying in general. 30 day min. Pam
