I graduated from New Iberia, and we used to go to Grande Isle on weekends all during senior year.....nothing like a huge bonfire on the beach with good friends, great music, and some booze, lol.

I'll check out those roos, Joe, thnx.

Hey Baralak, I'd gladly trade you an icechest of crabs for an icechest of deer anyday of the week! I'd rather be in Monroe up in a deer stand soon! The only thing I've got to climb is my palm trees

We used to hunt WAAAYYYYY up there in Haynesville. It's more my type of place.

I think it's time for a big pot of homemade soup. Using goods out of the garden, of course. Yep, that's what we're gonna have for supper tonite.

I decided against the roos, Joe. We just processed a bunch last week, and I have my youngest pullets in that pen, so no room right now. I love the Barred Rocks, but those feed store and hatchery ones just don't fill out like I want for my meaties. We got some last year from the feed store, just for processing, and those suckers were scrawny and tough. I fed them good, and we slaughtered at 16 weeks. Now, the cockerels we just processed came from the first batch I incubated back in May. The dad was Columbian Wyandotte, assorted moms (RIR, BR, BL, EE, PR), and these were some nice, big, filled out cockerels. Good and tender, too. So I figure I will try and get me another Wyandotte rooster.

I haven't given up on us having a chickenstock come springtime. I'm really not sure what area to try and have it. Personally, I'm thinking somewhere in the NE. I'll check on some places, and start throwing some ideas around. It's going to take more than just 2 or 3 of us to get this accomplished, tho.

I agree! I don't really agree in the "build it they will come" mentality, but I do believe that if enough interest is out there, then we could have a decient showing. What it would take is a good location.. North Louisiana, Ruston would be a good area.... it is central to Shreveport and Monroe, Alexandria would be another good area.. but you know how us chicken folks are.. Mailers and flyers to the feed/hardware shops would be the target advertising, and it would also be good if we could get some of them to set up a booth, or table. I have helped with Hamfests (ham radio operator) but even that group only a portion of people show. Also would send flyers to the 4-H sponsers, and FAA groups. If I was planning this, I would try to have it no later than March, or April.

I am going to try to call LA Tech's AG department concerning a location. If we could just determine a location, then we can move foward. And if BYC could send us some stuff like a banner, and pass out stuff, that would show an affilation.

Topic Change....

I understand on the BR's .. Though if we were having a Chicken-Stock (play on words) they would make a wonderful pot of dumplings.

Ok..... I have kinda taken the Bull by the horns here... I contacted the LSU-AG Co-Op and they think it is a WONDERFUL idea... Ms. Burns, the Poultry expert, has advised that she or one of her staff would like to come to speak on raising backyard flocks, and different ailments assoicated with poultry. Everyone has mentioned that I should call either the West Monroe, farmers market, or the LA tech AG center for a location.. I will update you on my findings.

Sounds good Baralak-- are you thinking of a spring chickenstock?
We had an outbreak of predator problems so I don't have anything to bring to one right now, but it would be fun to attend. I could put up flyers at the feed store here.

March - April sounds good to me. I'll have my incubators fired up by then so will have some chicks to bring, maybe a couple of peacocks too if anybody's interested.

Hey I had to break out my jacket today! record lows here this week. LOVE IT!

Terri, I sure hope you bring some of your Ameracauna chicks and/or eggs with you. Do you have pics somewhere I could look at? If you do have some laying, and I like them, I know I will be buying.
