"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Ok you Louisiana folks....my chicks still arent outside yet...but I have been reading the darn predator threads. arghh! Question-are armadillos a threat? We have several around here as well as the standard ones. Ive just never heard about anyone dealing with one. We probably have more of them than we do raccoons and opossum.

Ok... I'm ready now... I got some duck eggs on the way... Khaki Campbells, WH, Mallards, and Golden Layers, I'll add some chicken eggs to the mix after 10 days.. Got all the bators perkin right along.. Waiting!!!!

That is the cutest picture! Just exhausted! Poor little thing! How many Speckled Sussex chicks does this make now?

I got 5 in the first batch. So far in this batch 6 have hatched and the 3 that I can see have pipped. They keep laying on the 4th one!! SO... if all 10 of these hatch it'll be 15 plus I just put 8 more in the bator this morning along with 13 Golden Cuckoo Marans!!

I have a 10 yr. old cat that used to live outside but now she lives inside with me. She ADORES me! Every morning, I wake up to socks, gloves, and stuffed animals in my bed that she has gathered through the night for me. Once when she lived outside, I woke up to her crying at the door at 2:00 AM. I opened the door to let her in and as I did she put a live mouse on my foot. She was so proud of her gift to me!

Needless to say, at 2:00 in the morning having to chase a mouse around the house when you're half asleep wasn't that much fun to me at the time.

YEAH!! I hope those Golden Cuckoo Marans hatch.

I just bought Heritage SQ Rhode Island Red eggs. Can't wait to get those in. The last time I tried to hatch heritage RIRs my incubator died on me.

Armadillos are a threat to your plants. The go around eating roots.

Opossums will eat chicks and chickens. My poor Buff Orpington hens have some of their toe tips amputated from a opossum attack on their brooder when they were babies. The opossum tried to get them through the wire cloth and could only get their toes. I haven't had them get to my grown chickens but I'm sure they'd get them if they could. Raccoons will definitely get your chickens if they have a chance.

I don't know if armadillos are a threat or not? You would think that if they are hungry and need to eat, that they could possibly eat a chicken right?

I saw an armadillo one time a long time ago but my pitbull (when she was alive) took care of it.

How is the duck that you posted about a week or so ago doing? I hope that it's ok. I didn't see another post about it.

What a sweet cat. Awwwwwww. I would love to wake up to see that my cat has brought me those presents throughout the night.

So she had a live mouse?

Now that is hilarious! That is a Kodak moment. Did you finally catch the mouse?
