Does anyone want a free horse? Someone in the Lafayette area is giving away a free horse. Let me know and I will give you the contact info.

I gave 2 away in January. It's sad really, if you watch CL they are giving them away left & right or selling them for a couple of hundred $$ when their worth so much more!!

Missi - Thanks for asking about the babies. All of my babies are doing great. I had 5 new babies hatch this week so far. They are averaging 1 -2 hatches a day. I have a total of 8 broody hens and I am so tired. Times like these, I wish that I had an incubator. With an incubator, you don't have to worry about making sure the broody hen's area is neat and clean and has fresh water and food. And I know that this cycle happens every year and every year, I think it will get better. I'm exhausted.

My goal for new babies this year is 150 - 175 chicks. Each year, I try to make sure that more hatch than the previous year because of orders.

I will definitely need a vacation after all of this. I tried to train someone Monday evening on how to do the animal chores. We started at 5:30 PM and we ended at 9:15 PM. It was "interesting" to say the least. Before I went to bed, I told myself that I will never be able to go on vacation. To have someone come to my house and do all of these chores is impossible. Oh well.

If I had room.......no, I better not say that...... it is sad. I wish that I could give every free animal a home.

Kuntrygirl, I don't know about those incubators! At least those broody hens don't overheat to 120 degrees and cook the eggs!

Yesterday, I loaded an incubator with 41 of my freshest eggs. Everything seemed fine -- nothing unusual. This morning, I checked temperature and it was 120 degrees. The thermostat had black soot all around it. I'm so glad I didn't sell you an incubator! This is my second one in two months to die full of eggs. These were my first two incubators and they are a few years old. Thank goodness these eggs were from my common breeds that I get plenty of eggs from everyday.

Sorry, Joe, if you're reading this it means that I'll be delayed a few days.

Awwwwww, I'm so sorry to hear about the incubator and the eggs. I know that you were disappointed. But at least you still have the other incubator available. Wishing you good luck on your next batch.

Amy, if you post a pic of your BR I could probably tell you whether it was a roo or not!!

Here are a few pics;

Next to each other in the brooder. The one on the right.

Without the red light. The one on the left.

This chick has the attitude. Pecked my cat in the face, chases my toddler, tries to roost and fly. Spirited, rotten thing. Not a roo, is it?

And, I'm looking for that cabinet incubator. I've been holding off because we're planning to move before too long, and I really didn't want more things to move. But, I just may have to get it anyway and move it when the time comes.

The one on the left looks like a rooster to me. Actually, so does the one on the right.

The one in question is on the right in the first picture, the right in the second.
