"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Golly, what happened to SPRING?!!!!

we had to turn our heat back on! Busy at work closing out the month & still have payroll to do, too.
Amylou, hope you don't have a roo, but your baby does look kind of "roo-ish" to me. I have a BR girl & her comb isn't nearly that developed & lighter in color.

Sorry to hear about your lost hatch Grambys - I talked to my cousin in Mississippi last night & he said he's bringing me two of his bantams - he has four broodies right now & hatching out a ton of chicks, too. lol he was thrilled about the 1st broody, surprised about the 2nd, now he's feeling overwhelmed!

Julie, I sure wished we lived closer, I'd be happy to take care of your animals for you! Hey if you want to try out my incubator you're welcome to borrow it. It's just a cheap styrofoam Hova 1602N, but it does have an auto-turned & Jim rigged a fan so it can be used forced-air. It holds up to 42 chicken eggs & I've hatched out all except two of my current flock in it.

Also, if you borrow it, then I won't be tempted to fire it up again!

Baralek hope you get your sites back up & running, I had a power glitch in my computer this morning but a scan says all is clear so I'm back on it again.

Still mulling over if I want to try guineas again or not.....

Have a good rest of the day ya'll -- just think, tomorrow's TGIF day!

Thanks for the condolences Terrilachicks! Also, in regards to your dilemma about whether or not to get guineas -- I would go ahead and get them. If you're not happy with them there's always guinea gumbo.

Or, I'm sure there are people among your Louisiana BYC group that would take them off your hands. Chickenguru was looking for guineas. I may be in the market a little later. And I'm sure there are others that want guineas. Go for it!

Ugh... Guineas!! I remember growing up, our across the street neighbor had them... They started making that noise around 4-5 am.. Lol
I fought back with bantam roosters!

Hey, you have a good point there. TerriLaChicks, Do you have annoying neighbors?

You know, come to think of it..., when we move on our 10 acres our neighbor has property on three sides of us and has cows, horses, and DONKEYS. Hmmm..., I think guineas can compete with donkeys.

Anyone have good recipes for pickled eggs? I tried a recipe today that I found online but I don't know if it's any good. I'm looking for a good canning recipe so that I can save them for a few months in case we have a hurricane.

HaHa! as a matter of fact, the neighbor (my aunt) who lives across the highway from us IS annoying on occasion! I don't know if I'd wish guineas on her though. She already has to contend with my dog, who hates her & roars at her to the point she's afraid to come into the house (which, actually, is a good thing) & she's terrified of my peacocks. Wait till next year when they hit maturity & start calling!

I don't have any recipes for pickled eggs -- tried one once & thought they were just awful, but if anybody has another one I might try them again.

TGIF ya'll! and it's WARMER too!

I found a home for the maybe-roo Barred Rock if she turns out to be a he today.

OK now that Im back on the right thread IA looks somewhat like LA huh?

PS kuntrygirl I sent you a PM earlier also too on your request back sometime ago anyhow yell back at me if interested still

Is there no La-yers in the Easter hatch going on here on the BYC 'cept me?

Hope evrybodies out enjoying this wonderful day 'cause its liable to get nasty here 'bout Mon. evening but if it's the only way to get rain I''ll take my chances at it anyday. I think all my ground preparedness is all for naught this season unless we have a drastic change in the weather patterns and I don't for see that happining as the Jet stream is more than likely not coming any further south untill later on in the year if then, it didnt too much this past winter and thats the reason were in the drought were in now and with all the trees leafing out its just a matter of time its really going to be dry Im afraid!

Anyhow just thought Id add I ve reds a poppoing like popcorn as we speak started around noontime and looks to be a bunch if Ihavnt started counting too early but I see a bunch of pips in there now and a lot of racket too going on in there we shall see.

Hey everybody,...I've been tooo busy to get upstairs to post,.finally had to get up here just to see how ya'll are doing,.. Julie,. I thought of all your animals the other day when I thought about going to a show in Alabama,. it was such a big deal.....the logistics of getting someone you can trust to do all that has to be done,.. and we only have a small flock and a cat and a dog,.. I don't know how you do it,..if we lived closer,.. we could swap out,.. I saw someone on CL that advertised "chicken sitting",.....that might be a steady business for them....

My DD would do it for ya if she was close enough ,. she's awesome,... she's only 16 year old,. but she knows everything to know about the flock and she runs our place like an adult,..

are you close to Broussard? Check with the Homeschool Cottage,. or your local christian homeschool group.. the homeschooled young people are usually more available,.. and are looking for extra money too,..

I'm sure sorry to hear about your lost hatch Grambys,.. I sure do understand,... never had one spike that high before though,. wow. Glad you're up and going again

Missi,. thanks for asking,. My babies are sooo cute,. Speckled Sussex, and BO's from bargain and some Blue Wheaten Ameruacana/Davis Marans olive eggers,. they are all blue,.. and of course,.. ALL pullets,...

We will be setting some of Wynette's Silver Penciled Plymouth Rocks tomorrow,. so 3 more weeks of sitting on top of an incubator,

I know what you mean about the horses,.. CL in my area has them every day now getting cheaper and cheaper,. nice animals,. people just can't afford them anymore.

Hey catdaddyfro,.. glad you found your way home,.
