These are general guidelines -- now you know what to do next time.

Chickens are kinda like raising children. When we first have children, We don't know what we're doing a lot of the time but we muddle along trying to figure things out. In the meantime, our children are quite resilient and growup in spite of our mess ups. About the time we think we've figured things out our children start having children. Thereafter, for the rest of our lives our children drive us crazy making some of the same mistakes raising their children that we made when raising our children. And, of course, our children usually won't listen to our GOOD advice because they thing we're "old fashioned".

They are creepy looking. I have awesome feral cats that have been hanging around my house for about 10 years. I love them. I am the only person that can touch my feral cats or get close to them. They allow me to adminster their meds when needed.

This was the kill from a week or so ago. I heard some growling coming from the dog igloo that I have on the back porch for my feral cats to sleep in and I looked inside and this is what I saw.

Excellent idea with the fan!!!! Thanks for posting the pic to give me an idea. I think I will buy 2 fans today and hang them in the raised coop and chicken house. I see that you have your frozen bottles on the ground in a couple of pics. I never thought of that. I was putting the frozen bottles in the water and it was melting and losing the coolness within 2 hours. I will try to just place the bottles/jugs on the ground and see if that helps. The area where you place your frozen bottles, is it in the shade, covered run, etc. ? How long does it take before it all melts? The frozen bottle that you have in the metal pans remain frozen for about 2 hours at my place.

Thanks for posting the pics.

They last about 3-4 hours in the shade. I put them out in the morning (around 8), and I exchange them out with new ones around 4 in the afternoon when I get off of work. The chickens huddle up around them, if you notice the ones sitting on the frozen bottles aren't panting. I also put one in their water in the morning and in the afternoons. I tried plugging in a sprinkler while they were out in the yard free ranging, but they run and stay away. I found that they do like the wet dirt though, so around the house I spray the ground and they lay in it.
