Those geese are beautiful and appear to be very personable as well. It is evident that I will need to get a few after I get the acre next to me and get things set up for them.

By and large this one , but understand there are mostly women on here and I am a man and with the way the world is today , people have to be cautious . I am one of those people that never meets a stranger , and can yack with anyone . I have sent out a few pm's just to get some more specific info and have gotten no response . Figure most I see on here know each other personally and don't accept strangers . I may be wrong but it's how I feel . So I am venting . I am happily married and love my birds and enjoy learning more about this here chicken , since I have a few now and am finding out they are an amazing fowl !!!

Wow! Stephen, if you sent me a PM and I didn't answer I am very sorry. I've been running around crazy the last few months and will probably be running around crazy for the rest of the year.

Believe me, if I have the time I'll be more than glad to share my opinion with you. I am very FULL of opinions!!

Hey Stephen. Im a guy too and poultry enthusiasts aren't limited to women I can promise you that. I have enjoyed raising them since I was a little fella and now that Im back in the country, I am back into it big time. If you have a question about anything, just ask and I will help you if I can.

Question:

I live in New Orleans, and have a pretty sizeable backyard where the fence is lined with tall ginger
plants (the big flat shiny green ones that occasionally flower white flowers that look kind of like popcorn)
and also banana plants. In an effort to reuse and recycle as much as I can, does anyone think
that the dried leaves of these plants (heck, even the newly cut leaves) will or can serve as
some sort of hay/flooring in my coop? I just kind of like the idea of being able to go out, trim
some leaves off, and re-line the coop every now and again. Anyone ever do this?

Thanks,

Pete

I haven't used banana leaves (& yet have several trees, just never thought about it, lol) but it sounds like an idea worth trying. I do put leaves off the sycamore trees in there in the fall - they love scratching around in them. Mostly I use shavings for the flooring in my coop as I can get them free from a woodworking place here.

Chased birds again last night, got everybody moved into their new quarters. 5 month olds are now with the main flock, 3 month olds are in the 'grow out' pen and 2 week olds are in the outside brooder. "Musical chickens"! Can't beat fun!

and STILL NO RAIN HERE!!!!

Anybody need some 3 month old blue egg layers, I have to move at least 6-7 of them. Still can't sex them at this point though. These are sired by my wheaton roo Eagle & out of his mate Hawk & my 2 black Ameracaunas Georgette & Gracie. Most of them are black with coppering on their heads & necks, cute cheek poufs & as quick as fleas (they were my 'jail-breakers' yesterday morning). PM me w/offer if interested. I'll be traveling to Baton Rouge next Monday & can meet up somewhere in that area if need be.
