Well, decided to take a break from putting the lattice around the outside of the pens.Well,I only got to do 4 sheets worth of work. The next door neighbor put on a show for us.He had 2 cows over there, one his and one belonging to a friend.Well, they had a lil falling out and he told the guy to come pick up his cow and his 2 pigs. Well, the fun part was watching these 2 lil Mexicans (not saying rudely, actual Mexican immigrants) try to catch/rope this steer. One weighed a couple pounds, the other was maybe 5 ft tall and thin.Steer 500+..... They get him roped and out the pen.Now to get him off his feet and 'hog' tie him. After 20 minutes of trying to get him down and my husband ttrying to help them and tell them how to bring him down, one of the guys says" I watch a lot of movies..I know how to do this." Cow goes down, comes back up.Hubby watches for a while, then helps bring him down and then sits on him.(they think holding his horns will keep him down)They get him tied. Now to load this 500# of fight (with horns ) into the back of a pickup truck. Finally get him loaded, after I give them advice to put a couple boards to use for a ramp and pull/push up. Then they go to catch the pigs, the steer goes crazy, front legs come untied from back, thrashing around the back of truck, regains footing. All I can picture is horns going through the back windshield.
Ok my side hurts....Now they are on there way down the interstate headed home in I think a toyota with a 500# steer and 2 50+# hogs in the back... Hmmm.Wonder if I should hook up the trailer and follow them home.Maybe get me a free freezer fillin.....lol...
Ok I know its not rocket science but do yall think the this will work, I will have one hen per pen and I even put a pirch. pens are 4' tall, nesting boxes are about 2.5 to 3 foot off ground..
