Sorry to hear about losing some babies. What a shame. I'm sure they will start roosting soon. So you processed the roosters and rabbits or sold them?

Gracie, those sheep are just adorable! I'm wondering too why you don't keep the little ram for breeding?

Your sebbies are sure looking good! Your saddleback (2nd in front) sure has some very nice markings. Is it male or female?

I think that sebbie is a Male Twiley. I know that the ssaddlebacks are a pair, but I don't know which is which without seeing their leg band. I actually don't even remember if I have caught them to leg band them yet.

And about the little ram. We will let him breed the girls when he is old enough. The problem is that he is the half brother to the girls. It is ok to breed them together, but he will have to go once the lambs get here so he doesn't breed his offspring. Any female lambs we get will stay with us, and ram lambs will be banded and kept for meat. I didn't want to go and spend a lot of money on REALLY nice stock until I knew that they would work out for us. So if all goes well, next year we will spend the money to buy a nice new ram for the flock. I think they will work great for us though. I was wondering how we were going to keep 5 acres mowed... ta da! Sheep!

Hey, I found a few things that you can get to use for your chickens with your Academy gift card if you haven't used it already. I know that you made some waterers and feeders for your hens, so if you want to get a dog waterer and use it for our chickens, you can. Here is a direct link.

Waterer

Tarp

Dog house that can be used for nesting box for broody hens

Owl decoy to deter hawks, etc. I'm not a big fan of decoys because I don't want my chickens to get comfortable being around an Owl decoy and then not fear them.

Just a few ideas although you may not be interested in any of these.

Good idea never thought of that

Between the sheep and the geese you'll be in good shape. In fact, you may need to monitor your grass situation because both sheep and geese tend to clear the land of grass.

I will keep an eye on it. We have a couple of unused pastures right now, so it shouldn't be a problem. Our garden area is quite grown up, so I will put the sheep in there to do a little cleanup. I need to wire the gate in first though so the little ram doesn't escape.

I also plan on planting some rye grass this winter for everyone, so we should be in good shape!

I don't think I will be keeping more than 15 sebbies at a time. Any more than that and it just becomes work! I like to enjoy my animals, and you can't really do that when you get overloaded.

Gracie, I checked out that website and their rams are UNBELIEVABLE! There are no words to say for the pics of the meat that they have posted. Their meat is double the size of my little bitty ole lamb meat.

Puts my little lamb meat to shame!

Now, I'm thinking about getting a ram from them because I already have a ewe. Their rams are pricey but I must say, it's worth it. I definitely would spend that kinda money to have one of those rams. Their sheep are remarkable. Thanks for the link.

I am going to puy my name down for one of their spring rams. Maybe even a ewe if I can afford it. They are just amazing animals!

Gracie, it sounds like you have a very good plan. I agree with you on the sebbies. I'm trying to work myself into the best breeding sebbies and mostly stick with them. I have a long ways to go before I have excellent breeding stock. My goal is to improve my flock a little each year.

Afternoon peeps... Well it's STORMING here. <sigh> Trying to get laundry done, getting the house clean, etc. We leave Thursday and won't be back till next Friday and I hate coming home to a dirty house!!

I'm debating on going to buy a few bales of hay to put in the runs to battles some of this mud. It's kinda funny though. I seem to worry about all this and none of it seems to bother them!!
