"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Are you making her debut at the Alexandria show here? I go every year! used to show it when I showed but that was years ago, but still like to go hang out & see the action & peruse the vendor booths -- I'll come cheer you on if you're here! The Alex show is always the last week in January -- it 's on the Jack Onofrio circuit. I'm hoping to go to NY in Jan & cheer on my dear friend & breeder of our Cockers at Westminster - her boy's in 6th place right now & climbing, so hopefully he'll make that magic #5 & get an invite!

Incubating question!! If you had a bator that went one or two ways.. Would you rather it be a little cooler or a little hotter???

I had one like that & cooler worked better for me -- they ran a day later hatching but at least they didn't cook in the shell -- did have a couple of sticky chicks but that was not a big deal -- after they fluffed out & were in the brooder, a warm washcloth took care of the sticky shell bits. I had one run too hot & lost several & egg-autopsy showed them fully formed so I think they got too big, too fast & died before pipping.

Edit: thank you Julie for the NPIP reminder!!! I also want to get mine tested for AI this year & they told me last year you do have to pay for that one but I don't remember how much.

No I was planning on just starting her out with all bullies,so going with ABKC. What is the Alex show? AKC or UKC? AKC doesn't accept APBT only AST,she has a good bit of Amstaff breeding, but she is 'PR' UKC and ABKC.I got pics of her dad today.I'll post some when I get a chance. He's a big puddin.... Took him to the beach to try to get pics and thought he was gonnaa stroke trying to get away from the water...lol....

Here's the link to the AKC shows coming up:

I think it's AKC only, sorry -- she is a beauty! so good luck wherever you end up showing her!!

I figured it was AKC shows....lol... I used to weightpull and conformation with UKC. Now I'm going with ABKC because they have a broader range and more members and shows.I dont have to travel to California 10 times to CH a dog in a yr...lol.... They have a few shows closer to home and some of these clubs have plans of holding more shows if not monthly....so I should have better luck.

Its good to know you are pleased with them! The two boys I still have are looking very nice. I don't think people give the smooth breasteds enough credit. They are exceptionally beautiful!

I agree with you Gracie. Both of my saddlebacks are smooth breasted and I think they're very nice. The best thing about the smooth breasted ones is that they don't tend to have all of the wing issues that seem to be common in the curly breasted birds.

Your dog is gorgeous! Good luck with her in the show ring! I am hoping in a couple years to get a Staffie that I can show. I need to get my butt in gear and take my younger Staffie to some classes and get her involved in flyball or agility.

Breeds? Let's see..............

Rhode Island Reds
New Hampshire Reds
Black Austrolps
Barred Rocks
Buff Orpinton
Buff Brahams
Cochins
Delawares
Gold Laced Wyandottes
Jersey Giants
Leghorns
OEG

OK serious question here, Julie,--and anybody else! --- out of all these breeds you have, what is your favorite? in overall general terms - the ones that are nice & lay well & are just all around, you know, "good chicks" -- which breed do you like the best?

Asking for a young friend of mine who is trying to get started in chickens! I only have experience w/my Welsummers & Ameracaunas so I am no help!!! She wants a nice chicken who will be a good layer but be nice to her young children. (I promised her I'd take out any bad roos!)

Buff Orphingtons!! I don't remember ever seeing one of mine peck at another chicken let alone anyone else!!

My Lavender Orps are very sweet and curious. They haven't started laying yet, but I understand that they should lay very well. My RIR pullets are very sweet and friendly as well.

Really?? See that's why it's hard to tell someone what kind of birds they should get cause everyone has different experiences with different birds!! MY meanest birds are the Silver Laced Wyandottes and my Barred Rocks (Sometimes!)
