I most likely have about 300-350.00 in this one but it's hard to say. I had some of the wood already and I went to HD and just bought a bunch of wood that I thought that I might need. I had a bunch of it left over when I was done but figured that I would end up using it on the next one that I build, so no big deal.
I really think that this is going to work out good for me. I keep all the girls together and can let them free range all at the same time. I don't have to worry about any cross breeding, Cock fights or a rooster going after anyone like my 3 year old. So now everyone (the wife) is happy!!!! The next one I build will be for my BR's. At 4 months old they are the size of my 10 month old NH's.

Well I just got back from making a road trip to AL and I picked me up some really nice BO's from a buddy of mine. At 13 months old the three hens are the biggest birds in my flock right now. Wow, these things are massive birds! I also bought 2 BO cockerels that are about 4 months old..... so come this fall I should be able to hatch some really nice chicks from these guys. While I was there I bought 2 trios of Mohawk RIR's to add to the ones that I already have. Adding these guys to my RIR flock will renew some of the old blood in this heritage line. Man.... I really think next year is going to be a lot of fun around here with hatching chicks from all these old heritage blood lines that has taken me almost a year to collect.

I bought 4 gorgeous Silkie chicks from Gracie this evening. The kids and I were so very excited to pick them up and take them home. I set them up under the heat lamp and carefully closed the door to the bathroom to keep curious little ones out. I gathered up the water and feeder dispensers and when I came back about 5 minutes later, all was quiet. They all died!

I must have put the heat lamp too close and should have moved them to the larger brooder first. I am so sad. Gracie, I am SO SORRY I killed your precious little bitties.

They were so beautiful.

My honey buried the Silkie babies with Cookie. I dread tomorrow morning when my children wake up and run to my bedside to ask to see the new chicks (which they do every morning when we have chicks in the house).

O' my. That will be a tough spot to work through. So sorry for your losses. As our mothers used to tell us as kids, ' . . . and this too shall pass'. There will be more and you will not forget this experience as it will make you all the better chickie/brooder/mother. Again, I just feel so bad for you and the position you find yourself. My thoughts are with you.

Howdy folks, I seldom post, but thought I'd contribute to the La. thread just to show I'm friendly. Here's a pic of my coop. I've got quite an eclectic variety of chicks that free range around the back yard during the day from this coop.



I'm loving the heritage chickens some of you have. Would love to get into them some day. Those German NH's, Mohawk RIR's, and Good Shepherd BPR's, as well as the show quality BO's really float my boat. I have hatchery stuff for now, but they're still fun and my kids love having chickens. I'll finish up with a close-up of some of my flock.

Howdy folks, I seldom post, but thought I'd contribute to the La. thread just to show I'm friendly. Here's a pic of my coop. I've got quite an eclectic variety of chicks that free range around the back yard during the day from this coop.



I'm loving the heritage chickens some of you have. Would love to get into them some day. Those German NH's, Mohawk RIR's, and Good Shepherd BPR's, as well as the show quality BO's really float my boat. I have hatchery stuff for now, but they're still fun and my kids love having chickens. I'll finish up with a close-up of some of my flock.

Oreo died today. . She was my beautiful cross beak EE chick I posted a picture of last week. Sad day for my 4 year old son. She was his favorite and he keeps asking if we can dig her back up out of her burial spot so he can hold her.

Sad day for my honey as well. He knew the battalion commander (Tisdale) murdered at Fort Bragg very well. He's known him for almost 9 years now.

Terri, weren't you talking about how bad the Mosquitos are at your place? I went out to the coop to shut the windows tonight and I was shocked to see so many Mosquitos! We are getting a fogger!

Great pics!!!

I was talking to a guy a couple months ago and ALL of his coups, houses, etc are movable. He said everything that he has ever build has been movable. When he told me what he did and how he did it, I knew I had to follow his footsteps. So all of my coups and pens from here on out will be movable like this guy's are. The person that builds my coops is ready to begin on my movable coops and pens as well. I can't wait to get this project started and finished.

Awesome work Chris! We have to get started on a "pea condo" for when the babies outgrow the chicken tractor. (They're still in the brooder right now). I'm trying to convince Jim to do a gazebo type thing-- make it decorative!
