"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

do you think if i give him a chance to feather back up it will stop the pecking. cause they were raised together since they were hatched and he feathered a lot slower than the rest and they all wanted to peck at the down feathers that was still down his back and never gave him a chance completly feather out but now they have pecked all that off and they are pecking just skin.

Maybe. Was he not feathered out the first time he was put in? If he was in full feather the first time, I don't know if it would be any different the second time around.

no they never gave him time to feather he has always been bare skin on his back but the pecking didnt get really bad until last week. but im building him a seperate pen today joining the other one and i will put him in there until he can get fully feathered and then i will try putting him in with the rest if they still peck him then i will prob re home him. Im going to try everything i can before I re home him cause its the only chicken my wife likes she even named him Martin. LOL!!! Thanx for the advice. Im still new to raising chickens but im loving it.

Does anyone know where to get bulk feed in SE La, as close to Covington area as possible? Getting too big to buy bags now :)

Also, I'm looking for a female Nubian goat, adult or baby. Not looking for papers and all for breeding, just a personal milk goat. If you have one for sale or know someone, please pm me.

He is the odd man out so to say and once ever removed he will not be allowed to be in their little socialite clique until later on once he is mature enough to hold his ground. this often happens to the off colored bird(s) even if they are reared together from hatch. this type of behaviour from the chicks is very habitual and once they figure out how nutritious(tastey) the new growing (still in blood they're called) feathers are they will surely keep on picking at him and you must keep an eye on the others too just because they are all the same color now doesn't really matter once such a act has started amongst them and too their is USUALLY a main instigator (culprit) at first but it usually spreads fast throughout the others too. I was raised on a broiler farm we had multi-thousands in the houses at one time all were white. Well every so often you will get some sports that are white/black or brown in them or almost a solid color other than white and we would have to catch these off colored birds and remove them or they would surely be cannibalized by the others. My Grandfather would always take these home and raise them up for stew/gumbo chickens.
On the squawking and not eating he will probly be ok in a few days as though one would not think it he is lonesome and misses his hatch mates that would surely pick him to death. also too look closely around his vent area to make sure they haven't pick out something vital or that this area doesn't develop infection as this is not the most sanitary area on them for sure.

This was meant as a reply to an earlier post but ended up here.

Keep an eye on craigslist. They usually announce the monthly chicken swap there. The swap is at O'Keefe's Feed in Covington. Usually some interesting stuff there.

My critters have made poo soup of the coop and run! :sick   I have got to get some sand in there.  It is unreal how it goes from bone dry to swamp.  The waterfowl don't mind, but my chickens are giving me the stink eye

Thought I would share a pic of my piggies... oh uh, I mean sheep :gig   You'd swear I never feed the fatties with the way they climb into the trough

That is too cute!!!
