After reading the stories about chickens walking sideways I felt much at ease. My poor Road Island Red looks like a porcupine with spikes all over and I was really worried if her walking sideways was a part of her molting- and after reading several stories I now know it is part of molting. I did noticed when I turned the heater on in the coop she ran in early and was more at ease. Thank you for sharing everyone.

She feels uncomfortable and she finding a way to make her new feathers not break and bleed or not hurt as much. My chickens do this all the time when they have uncomfortable pin feathers coming in and they only act like this for a short time.
To help her - maybe try feeding her some protein - like maybe boiled meat ( not chicken of course 🤣🤣) like beef or pork - if you can get sunflower seeds or cracked corn that is always great to feed her and the rest of the flock.
I hope your girls get threw it - and I promise they will not look like hedgehogs much longer! 🤣🤣🤣😂
