I hit the jackpot with my two
Stella I got at 4 weeks old. I spent a lot of time with her
Always holding her
At 7 months she started to lay eggs and wanting to mate with my ducks
So I got her a gander who was 1.5 years old
When the lady brought him over he heard stella and immediately ran to her
He was in love that second
She was not
She was running away from him and right onto my lap
After 4 days she settled and would let him close to her
By 2 weeks she fully accepted him as her mate
Since then they started to mate daily
She laid eggs for 6-7 weeks then stopped
They are still fully mating every day
Stella is still a moms girl
Everyday she climbs on my lap for cuddles
She spends a good 30-60 mins ( what ever time I give her) ti be snuggled
Gary stands close by and watches but never gets aggressive he has never put his head down , chased , bit to any of us
My grandkids run through the yard with no issues
My adult kids come in the yard
My husband
The water meter guy
Even the lady who buys my eggs
I’m not always out there and he has never gone after anyone
Stella is not aggressive towards any humans either
But since egg laying and mate season she has got nippy with my ducks in small spaces
The kid pool and in the coop at night
In the yard she is great with them
I have separated pens in my coop to sleep
This way my Stella doesn’t hurt my ducks and my drakes are separated in a closed off area
My geese act like police in the yard
If drakes are fighting they will break it up and even walk between them to keep them separate
They also run over and stop the boys from mating ( sorry boys but my girls won’t be overrun
)
I was terrified to get a gander with all the stories I heard
I’m so glad I did it
I have Pomeranian saddleback
Stella is buff and Gary is grey
I will be hatching goslings to add more to my flock
Hopefully the offspring carry the parents genes as they are both gentle birds !!
