I have been clucking for almost a month now and my girls are looking great. There color, feathers, and size all are in excellent shape 👀🐓🐔 I have followed all the steps, tips and comments from all of the group regarding layerfeed 16%, clean water, grit, oystershell on the side for both. When to offer scratch has treats, every other day.🤔 Thanks.
To date I am not happy with production of 5hens, 2 a day is not what I expected.
I started to see production of the first 2eggs into week 2. Both eggs had good color, shape, size was different. Brown eggs are smaller. I immediately thought ok let's make some breakfast and then I cracked them open and realized how thin the white leghorns eggs were. Brown eggs are thick and firm from the start of production. Just started offering oyster shell a week ago.
I'm also concerned about the poopoo that I'm seeing. Most of it looks like normal chicken poop, but there are some examples of diarrhea.

How old are they? If they are pullets just coming into lay, this is normal, new layers will often lay some wonky eggs at first. If you're getting soft shelled eggs for more than a few days though I'd give the culprits some calcium citrate + d3 tablets for a few days. New layers will also lay small eggs, they'll get larger with time. Do you have pictures of the poop in question?

They are between 5-7 months. There big. I think 🤔🐓🐔 I was cleaning up this morning and didn't have my phone with me. I wasn't thinking about it until after I finished. But I'll get that done and when I do I'll post it to this thread.

They are fairly new layers then, a few wonkey eggs are not unusual and small eggs are to be expected. Just monitor the soft shelled egg situation and treat if it doesn't clear up in a few days and let them sort the rest out themselves in time

So far NO wonky looking eggs. I've seen in this group some pics of oddball looking eggs. They have been about what an egg should look like 🥚🪺👌

I'd consider soft shelled eggs to be wonky, can be a sign of a deficiency or health issues but often for new layers it's just a random glitch in the system that usually sorts itself out in a few days
