Lucas, my special needs duck

Hey everyone! Just an update on Lucas, my special not so little splayed legged duck!

I’ve learned he’s a bit big/older for an easy correction, so we’ve been improvising and had success so far. We have been using a alightly stretchy material that we make a circle then knot high on one leg and then take the material over and do the same over to the second leg so there is just one single piece between the two. We make sure it has some pull to it, so there’s support, but not so much that it trips him up. It was trial and error for the first few ties.

It’s important to note he does NOT have normal duck legs and there’s no way for it to slide down. He has big hulk like legs LOL. (I can include pics if anyone else needs them to try it). This gives him enough support to be able to keep up with his peer much better as well as swim easily (although we’re still supervising closely) and he’s had no issues getting in and out of water, swimming, or even walking in tall grass. He’s still tires out but not as easily as he did at first, so I am hopeful!

We are trying to tighten/shorten the support here and there and also give him breaks from it in hopes that he will build the needed muscle to be able to get around completely his own. But honestly the “tether” is easily maintained enough that if it’s all it takes to make him a happy duck, I am very happy that he will be with his peers swimming and playing. Will let you know in a few months if “physical therapy” pans out for the better :)
