Heart of Dixie
My little gosling, well she's more like a teen now, is the only goose I have. She's been hanging with the ducks lately, following them around and such. The male I bought to go with her died of "mysterious" circumstances. She is an American Grey. My question is, Do I need to make sure she has some goose/gander type companions, or will she be satisfied with the ducks and chickens we have?

She would be happy with the ducks I'm sure.

I have just one little duck and I'm pretty sure he will be fine with the other animals I have ,,,,

I've been looking for some "goosey" type friends for poor Lucy, but so far haven't found any. Perhaps I can get some at the flea market on Sunday. (That's where I got her at). I think that the male I got when I bought her was sick to start with. Bought him from another guy and he didn't look real healthy. I know better than to do that!

Don't give up the search too soon. There are often more geese on the market in the fall/early winter than at any other time. Two reasons the young goslings that were raised as pets mature enough to start searching for their own place in the pecking order. this often turns loving pets into "agressive" geese and the heartbroken owner sells them down the river. The other reason is that owners realize that the geese aren't going to be able to live mostly on graze and a handfull of feed and cut down their flock to reduce the feed bill. Some of these birds will end up on the table but many are sold at good (cheap) prices. Locate the markets for live birds now in order to take advantage of them later. And good luck in finding Lucy a goose friend of either sex.
