Lump on Newly Hatched Chick-help please

Good point - and I agree that not hindering leg development is important, too, especially at this critical developmental stage. Placing a bandage in that area is difficult at best...maybe a "diaper" type wrap would allow more leg movement? Ideas?

Right I could make a smaller bandage, still protect it but not as wide. Her legs come out the sides and she has full range of motion, but she doesn't look comfortable. Her wings are out too, it only covers her butt/torso. Then again, I'm wondering if laying down a bit longer will help her absorb the yolk?

Resorbing the yolk could take at least several days, I'd guess. I'll throw out just a couple of possible approaches that come to mind: put chick in a cup until the yolk is resorbed - I've used a nylon sock with two little holes cut for the feet to hang down from; or keep chick isolated until yolk resorbed. With the latter, you'd have to re-integrate the chick, and that brings its own challenges.

How long since you bandaged the chick? I would check on it after about 6 hours.

I bandaged her at 5am, shes doing okay, starting to fluff out. I've got other pips so dont want to open the incubator often, I'm putting together a small brooder just for her atm. I'll post updated pics in just a bit when I'm finished.

So far shes doing great, I made her own personal tiny brooder and shes running around, trying to figure those legs out. Diaper is removed. The lump is definitely yoke sac. Theres veins in it, and the pinkish area underneath in the first pics have hardened and turned dark, I'm thinking it was blood inside the yoke sac and has scabbed. It is still a good sized lump but looking better. Pics of her pushing against my hand, the yoke top side, and hardened/scabbed underside. A bit of the gauze stuck to the sack, I'm not removing it so that she doesn't bleed. Theres veins inside the yoke still, I'm hoping that being by herself she cant injure it.
Also, I'm just noticing, shes keeping her right eye closed, and it looks a tiny bit swollen. Will that improve on it's own?

Edit to add: I've never had a chick in the brooder before they can walk, she hatched today at 4am. I'm afraid to put water in until she has more control/is fluffy. Should I give her water tomorrow? She should be fine today right ?

Ok I just got home from work, there was an egg zipping. I took the one pictured (who is doing great, pooped while I was gone and is literally running laps in her brooder),cleaned her up, and made a new diaper that has a hole for the anus. She'll be able to poop without getting it on the yolk sac.
I put her back in the brooder, and the other chick was hatched out. It has basically the same problem but smaller, a red/yellow lump where the yolk sac is, no plug, it's just much smaller.
These eggs came from my hens. Could there be a problem with the eggs and/or my hens ?? I'm not having a good time this hatch lol....

Could there be a problem with the eggs and/or my hens ??

Could be a lot of things..but most likely it's an incubation thing temps and/or humidity was off. Could be parental health/nutrition/genetics. I don't know enough about incubation to speculate exactly why the yolk did not retract and abdomen close before the hatch....or what the prognosis and/or handling of a yolk that is still outside the body at this point. I would think infection would be the biggest risk.

Did you test your thermometers and hygrometers?

What kind of incubator are you using?
How did you track temp, humidity, air cells, etc during the incubation?
