Hello,

I've discovered strange lumps on my chicken's eggs. They've been showing up for the last couple of months now, and we aren't getting sick from the eggs, but I would like to know what these are. A first-year Americauna laid this egg this afternoon. They look really unpleasant, so some of my family feel queasy about cooking them.

(This was taken on a 3DS, so sorry about the quality)

No problem----break it open and drop the inner egg in the frying pan----it will be Gooood. Calcium deposits I hear causes it.

Thank you! That explains a lot. We've been mixing too much oyster shell in their feed!

Oyster shell should be offered in a separate container. Chickens instinctively know when and how much they need far better than we do. Mixing it in with their feed risks overdosing them, possibly diluting the nutrients in their feed and/or wasting feed as they bill it out of the feeder to get to the bits they do want.

give the hen oister shells and it will help with the lumps. it will also make your eggs harder and less bumpy.
