Magic duck soft shell eggs

I have two magpie ducks, for the last 2 months one stopped laying eggs, now has started again the last 2 weeks and the eggs are very soft shell, also she don't lay her egg before 8am it's at 3 pm when I have let them out to roam, she just does it right out on the ground, and if I'm not keeping track my chickens will eat it. I got the one she laid yesterday before the chickens found it. Will she ever lay a normal egg! and at a normal time like in the mornings. Are the eggs that she lays ok to eat? if the shell don't break before I get it in the house,they are really soft shell almost no shell. She use to lay perfect eggs and before 8am. What could be causing this? My other Magpie Duck still lays perfect eggs and before 8am. Any info would be of great help. Thanks bunches. Love my Ducks!

Welcome to BYC and the coop! There's a lot of great peeps here! Feel free to ask lots of questions. But most of all, make yourself at home. I'm so glad you decided to join the BYC family. I look forward to seeing you around BYC. It sounds like a calcium deficiency to me. I started give my chickens oyster shells after a few soft shells and it really helped. I'm not to familiar with ducks. It would seem to be the same principle. Good luck with her.

I suggest you post on the "Duck thread," just put that in the search box. The folks there should be able to give your good information. I don't have knowledge with ducks to attempt an answer.
