ok everyone i have a question i am going to build another 8ft by 10 ft coop the first coop has 17 hens in it already but some are bantams the first coop has 35 feet worth of roosts space for the chickens they have a 16 by 16 run for when we are not home but when we are home they have access to 4 acres of land how many can i exactly fit in this coop size because i have 12 more chicks that will soon need a coop and we are at least 4 more weeks away from building a new one and also i would like for the new coop to be just bantams mainly silkies so if i only have bantams in the new coop which will also be 8 by 10 how many will i be able to fit in it
 
So I started in on this thread to late to report myself as one of the easter hatches, but my second batch should be hatching on Easter day....however tomorrow I go into lock down on my first batch. I'm nervous. I totally botched up last year (it being my first time and all) and this year was a little messy at first. I do know I had a moving chick yesterday though. ( Someone in the classroom stole the mini LED flashing light so I've been trying to candle this whole week with a regular flashlight. It's not working.) I went out and bought a new, even brighter, LED flashlight at Walmart......is it okay to candle in the morning tomorrow before I put them in lock down? I want to pull out any bad eggs before 3 days of no touchie.

Yay! My eggs for the Easter hatch arrived today! Ten days in the postal system, shipped plain ole' parcel post, side of box torn, eggs wrapped in toilet paper with 2 plastic grocery bags for padding, 5/9 eggs broken, rotten, stinking to high heaven, and bugs crawling out of the box!
