It's time to come clean. I've been telling myself, "don't candle 'til day 10." Last night, after everybody else was asleep, I couldn't take it anymore. I only candled three, one from each breed in there cooking. First up, Speckled Sussex. It was a blood ring, I think (this is my first hatch). Number two, was a bantam Cochin and it was clear as a bell. At that point, I was really wishing I hadn't fooled with them. I was pretty discouraged. But I looked at one of the bantam Ameraucana eggs anyway. There was definitely veins and an eye. Okay, so I think I can make it 'til next Tuesday now.

Here is my entry for the funniest picture. This was a lone chick I had hatch and it really really liked it's stuffed animal "mommy". It slept like this all the time.

My caption is "Someone please turn out the light, I'm trying to sleep here!"

I use a stuffed animal with lone chicks.

Well when you have a lone chick it sometimes works as a place to cuddle up. This particular chick absolutely loved it's stuffed monkey. Almost every picture I have of it, it is either under the monkey or perched on top of it.

On the other hand I have had some that could care less bout their stuffed animal.

I would be confident about putting 25 bantams in an 8' x10', so long as you use poop boards and have lots of roost space. I'm not sure about your weather, but here, I also have to provide covered run space or larger coops because of deep snow.

Warden- Whoa, so sorry about your shipped eggs. That was really poor on the part of the seller.

LOve your flapper picture! It is so clear.
I too could not keep my little fingers off my eggs and of the 8 I have 6 looking really good and 1 that is questionable.
