Mahonri's 2nd Annual BYC EASTER HATCH. Post pics of your chicks!

I have heard of roosters standing by the door of the coop while the girls lay, and mine does it too - maybe they are also nest scouts? Like badly designed magpies?

'Oh, this looks good, here girls, come drop some here....'

Many of my roosters prepare nests for the girls. Especially if I make a pen change or move them. The rooster scouts around and prepares a nest. The hen will go check it out and often times will "bawk" at it. He will then go look for another, prepare it, and ultimately she will agree to use one. I love watching chicken dynamics!

I have a Serama rooster who watches over "his girl" who is currently sitting on 5 or 6 eggs. When she gets up to stretch her legs, etc...he stands over the nest until she gets back. At first I thought I was imagining it, but started watching closer and he does it every time she gets off of her nest. Hard not to like a rooster like that!

Now, now, I am positive Arizona doesn't allow that many characters on its vehicle license plates! (I mean, I really AM positive - I have access to the actual databases for all 50 states' license plate configurations.)

To reiterate,
15. Gryeyes License Plate Contest WEEK THREE CONTEST
She has a personalized license plate and loves to figure out others "vanity" plates. Using a combination of up to 7 numbers and letters, come up with a personalized chicken related license plate. "Pictures" of plates will earn extra (subjective) points. Feel free to use the License Plate generator at: http://www.acme.com/licensemaker/
Judges
will pick the one they like the best for the winner!
Prize: Solar Lawn Art

Now, it doesn't have to be a real plate, one you actually have on a vehicle, but that sure is worth a slew o' subjective points for choosing between this or that or those great entries!

My serama roo is in with two girls, and he ADORES them. He would take the hand off me for going near their chicks while the hens are pretty Ok about it. I get the wing down shuffle, raised feathers, head down growl, and stink eye. They just either move out of the way so I can see them or bruk bruk bruk tell me they are getting a heating session. Funny things. My oter broody (who before would run a mile from me, like te other hens in that coop) will now let me do pretty much anything too, but goes completely mental at the sight of her man. She'd beat seven bells out of him if he came near her. NOT looking forward to moving her chicks on in a few weeks....

Sorry I've not been around; started to catch up a few times in the last two days but fell asleep in the chair every time.

First, and most importantly, my prayers for Mike and family have been offered up.

Great license plate ideas; IMO that picture of an actual plate should get bonus points. LOL

Thanks to all for prayers, well wishes, and suggestions for fighting this/these bug/bugs that have been frustrating me. It's been awhile since I've felt feverish............................... but I just can't seem to shake the coughing and feeling of fatigue for longer than a few hours at a time [but at least I do feel better for those hours

]. I was feeling great yesterday, headed off to fulfill an obligation plus a visit to my DM, ended up driving back home to take the cough medicine [I stupidly left behind] and rest before finally completing my first obligation, and never did visit Mom. I'll be making another doctor's appointment for Monday or as soon as there's an opening; I want to get off the narcotic medicine and see if one suggested by Renee {ChooksChick} is more effective. I'm fortunate in the fact that the particular narcotic that helps the most has the opposite affect of drowziness it causes in most people; but that means it does not work well to help me get some uninterupted sleep.

The thermometers in my bators have recorded some awful bad lows and highs, but I think those recordings are a glinch [56 for a low , 110.5 for a high................ I don't think so]. Looking forward to the approaching lockdown, and planning on setting more soon after hatch day [might start running a staggered hatch since I now have two bators; I could set a small batch every few days untill I hatch the varieties and numbers I'm shooting for].

Gave up on the plate the second day.

Too dingy to copy them.

Working on a list of birds to rehome.

I've got chicks all over and I need to find an way to sell other than the auction. I had to actually tell a guy last year that the reason all of his chicks died was he had bought 4 week olds and only fed them scratch. I saw what he bought that week. The next he was there taking about someone putting up birds that die. I had looked at them and they were nice, but he over paid for them. Just don't want the same thing to happen to my birds.

I added 24 more eggs to the bator yesterday and had to figure out how to get the lid to close. I spent almost 20 minutes moving one here and moving one there. I think I may be able to cram a few more in there though. hehe

I got cherylcohens' Silver Penciled Rocks yesterday. So a new trio to make another coop for. LOL The roo, Ziggy was from lotsapaints. I haven't wanted Rocks again for a long time, but I saw them at the Stockton show and they were so pretty. Now they're mine! LOL I can't wait to start working with them.
