Mahonri's 2nd Annual BYC EASTER HATCH. Post pics of your chicks!

OK - I set 80 total - nothing out of the quail .......we will not be using that bator again.

55 out of 80 total eggs went into lockdown
14 out of those hatched... 2 dominiques and rest BSLs and all but 3 of the BSLs are roos!

That 14 is counting my 7 day early hatcher!

So this hatch sucked.....I should have had much better results since most are our own eggs & the other batches have done great!

Anyone want to figure my hatch rate? Not sure I want to know.......lowest I have ever gotten on our own eggs was like 93%

Added mine. May have added it twice - cant see the spreadsheet to see my % tho.

I have to copy the formulas down.

If you really want to know, I did the calculation "traditionally" which is total hatched divided by total going into lockdown. Your % number is actually going to be lower on the spread sheet because it is going to be total hatched divided by total set. Do you want to know the number?

ETA - by the traditional way your percentage is actually 25% (threw this on here once I saw your other number)

Yes, I know. But we decided on the NYD hatch to keep the calc simple, as there is too much wiggle room & chicken math when working with the other %s out there.

Per his royal rooliness, the calc for the contest is hatched divided by original number of eggs set. And he's the boss.

Like Tony Danza!!!

Oh I know I just wanted to let her know that her percentage was actually higher by the way most people figure out hatch rate. I am not arguing the rule for this thread (

to his royally rooliness

) just think the other way is a little more fair. If you had a lot of "clears" in a setting, I don't think they should count against your hatch rate.

I must not do it same way.. I did total hatched by total set .....and got 17.5

I can never remember how to do the darn calculation. Once I ended up with like 572.###########

I am disappointed although if I think of it as 25% that is a little better

I don't know the formula for traditionally. I normally go by what goes into lockdown on day 18 and number hatched. I usually ignore what I started with

I don't usually lose many at lockdown if they are our eggs

Whispers to ChickyChickyBaby, it is the hatched number, divided by the eggs going into lockdown, times 100
