Mahonri's 2nd Annual BYC EASTER HATCH. Post pics of your chicks!

My best hatch from shipped eggs so far has been from individually bubble wrapped eggs in a plastic grocery bag snugged to nestle them together, then padded all around. I've had eggs shipped in containers padded with bubble wrap, fiberfill, and shredded paper. Pretty minimal damaged eggs all the way around, only losing one shipment to rough handling (multiple detached air cells, eggs never developed or died early). That one was well packed, but by the looks of the box they were in, were the ball in a round of soccer.

I may possibly be better off than " not out anything " ; I checked the all the broken with yolks still whole , and all were fertile . I may hatch some of those that were not broken .

.................................... and I forgot to say , she went to a professional for advice on packing fertile eggs . You can't blame her for getting poor advice . Even based on people's experiences here , there are different opinions on the best packaging methods

Well that's an optimistic way to look at it!

Love it. You hit it on the head that everyone will have different experiences. Lord knows all the variables from hen to hatch can take place.

Hm... one of my coworkers called from Portland a few hours ago. Do you need anything, I'm going to Trader Joe's...? (I'm a vegetarian).

Uhm... I'd LOVE a dozen eggs...

Cracked one open and they're fertile.

Sticking them in the incubator tomorrow...

We'll both be setting eggs with ............... uhhhhh .................. " challenged hatchability ? " . Shall we buddy up for this hatch on a seperate thread ?

wow you guys talk a lot. lol. I am doing better than I was catching up with nyd hatch. I love the new go to button. I have a little dark cornish chick drying in my new brinsea. Someone local offered me a dozen welsummer eggs for $6 if I would like to try and hatch them. I put an add up on craigslist for specific breeds of hatching eggs as I am trying to stop collecting so many different ones and concentrate on the types I would like to breed. As much as I want different colored eggs I didn't put welsummers or marans on the list. Darn her for emailing me, I emailed her back and asked if she would kindly sell me 2 dozen.

Also, sorry to see your eggs arrived in such bad shape Steve. From the look of the box they took a fair hit to the side too.

I hope you get some fuzzy butts out of the good eggs, they should be tough little buggers.
