x2!! Who SERIOUSLY send eggs in a carton with no padding like that?!? I hate it when eggs arrive in cartons even WITH some padding - I never get good hatches from them.

These were free eggs , an experiment in packageing . The nice lady who sent them was told by a local hatchery owner that cartons were the way to go . I've read enough in this section of BYC to know most don't pack them that way ; evidently she thought the hatchery owner knew what he was taliking about . I'm out nothing ; disappointed , but wiser from the experience .

ETA: They did travel through subzero temps without freezing , and I know some receive frozen eggs but don't know if that's usually suffered at destination due to being left outside after delivery

I agree with the egg cartons. I prefer mine in egg cartons.... HOWEVER, each egg must be cushioned inside the carton with bubblewrap or paper towels, or something! I also use 2 of the bottoms of the cartons, one for the top and one for the bottom. I don't use the flat top portion of the carton.

I am sorry about the eggs, Steve. I still endorse egg cartons. I have had the best hatches from egg cartons.

Okay, I'm in! I'm so excited about this Easter Hatch it should be fun. It did grow alot faster than the NYD hatch did, which means we'll be swimming in eggs and chicks by the end of the hatch.

I have Coturnix eggs hatching!!!! 2 external pips, 1 internal pip, and lots of rockin'!

That carton is designed so it has two sections that cradle the egg on top and bottom , and a flat top that folds over and holds those two sections together . The only problem was lack of padding between the hard plastic and the egg . I doubt the carton would have closed if she had added cushioning because they are nice sized eggs .

and the egg carton was centered in 4" of straw , I'm not all that sure that different packing would have saved them

I've received eggs many different ways. I've had them wrapped in newspaper, bubble wrap, cartons, foam.

I've only had one cracked egg and it was wrapped with newspaper.

I'll admit though that those that cam in cartons were wrapped in newspaper or bubble wrap.

Hmmm...that's interesting. From my own experiences I prefer the eggs NOT to be wrapped and encased in egg cartons. Out of the hundreds of eggs I've hatched and dozens of shipments I have received, the ones that hatch the best for me (so far) are the ones that have NOT been wrapped up, then wrapped tight in egg cartons. I swear I get more broken air cells that way. I like the eggs wrapped individually in bubble wrap and set in a nest of shredded paper in the box and more shredded paper secured around them. I'll add too that I've had excellent hatches from 2 shipments where the eggs were placed in those foam containers.

SteveH...at least you are not out anything. Hopefully this lady can find a better way to ship from now on.
