Mahonri's 2nd Annual BYC EASTER HATCH. Post pics of your chicks!

I can't believe it's still so cold in some areas! Today it's supposedly 65* and it feels cold to me. In fact, my little space heater just kicked on again

If anyone is interested in a 6+ order of any chicken eggs from the breeds in my signature (except for the serama cause they are still 'babies') please let me know! I could also do an 18+ of button quail eggs

What's really funny about this place is how WARM it feels when it starts getting above freezing.

I moved here in May from Maryland. I remember the weekend that my dad and I drove up here to scope out a house for me to rent. It was cool (50s), a bit misty and foggy and I'm stopped at a street light in Auburn. My dad and I are both wearing jackets, the windows in the car are up and the heater is on. All the people outside were wearing SHORTS AND TANK TOPS. Really. We couldn't stop staring and commenting on how absurd these people were.

I now completely understand how 50's is shorts and tank top weather.

Does anyone know the diameter of the tubing that is used on the humidity pumps for the Brinsea incubators?

chicken math is how 2 chickens turn into 20 plus plus plus etc... Ya think..ok I'll get 2-4 chickens for some eggs, right! Next thing you know your like hmmm well whats 1 -2 more.... following??? Next thing you know you have too many and will never admit that, your incubating dozen etc and so on and so on.

Chicken math is very flexible. You can use it in reverse on say, a spouse that isn't as excited over the four dozen eggs you just purchased. You say "I purchased 48 eggs, but only 36 will arrive unharmed. When I set the 36 eggs, only 24 will hatch. Of the 24 that hatch, only 12 will be female. Those females are staying...so you see hun, four dozen eggs is at best one dozen chickens." Nothing to worry about!

I keep promising my DH that we'll eat the extra roosters this hasn't worked out well for me so far. My first purchase was 35 straight run chicks and I got 12 roosters, second purchase of 25 and I have 7, I hatched 14 and got 4 roos. Most people would be thrilled at those odds, but he feels a little cheated

. So now I'm looking at those nice blue Crystal Creek eggs and crossing my fingers for boys! (But he can't eat those either)

I DO !!!

DITTO ..... I have 5 days left till lock down, then however long it takes my FBCMs chickies to hatch. Then I have to wait a whole week after that for my Ameraucanas to hatch.

Sigh....where's the fast forward button.
