Mahonri's 2nd Annual BYC EASTER HATCH. Post pics of your chicks!

This was my first time hatching in the Dickey, I have been hatching in the Brinsea. Yesterday there were no problems, today however, stuck chicks.

So I made the decision to open the incubator and rescue them. Removed 30 something chicks and unstuck/hatched 4 chicks, and 1 was already dead.

Then moved all remaining eggs to the Brinsea. I have to say I love that incubator, plugged it in and up to temp. in 30 mins.

I have 10 eggs that I put in a day late, a bunch have pips. Hope & pray they make it now that I moved them around.

I am hearing lots of peeping, so that is a good sign for now.... it is going to be a LONGGGGggg night.

Is there a perfect incubator out there?

At hatcheries, what percentage of eggs hatch in the big hatchers?

Just got home after being gone all day to the Oregon BYC Chicken Swap - had a good time - and only have four W/BWA's hatched. Nothing yet from the Buckeyes. If things continue to progress this way, this is going to be one long hatch for me!

I candled! I see one swimmin' around in there, yes! The others still look developed, at least as far as they should, but no movement. I am so happy... I might just have one chick! Only one of my Silkies has made it, I think, but I am leaving them all in there.

Oh... I want one chick! Just one! No more candling until I go into lockdown, Tuesday.

kimshimert it depends on a lot of things as to if 80% is too high. I found out on this hatch for the conditions where I live, 75% works A LOT better than the 65% I was doing on my last two hatches. It depends on how much moisture the eggs evaporated during the incubation, the humiditiy in the air where you live, heck I am sure that the altitude your house is at can play a part. Two questions for you, do you know how big your air cells were at lockdown and have any of your eggs hatched yet? If your eggs are hatching fine at 80% I wouldn't change a thing. If your chicks are looking "sticky" I would bring your humidity down.

Definately the one that hatched was sticky and several hours later has not fluffed, so maybe I have it too high. I was so worried about it being too low and the whole shrink wrapping, that maybe I over compensated thanks
