Mahonri's 2nd Annual NYDHatch, watching them grow...

I am getting pekin and crested pekin eggs from Bargain.

Well , I opened the two eggs . One was quite ready but died without pipping , the other had died with the yolk still not absorbed . The latter one was the first egg of a new layer and huge [ as all of her eggs have been since ] ; but was added 12 hrs after the others .

Just ordered my Brinsea spot check thermometer that I'm going to use in my hovabator from day to day. I hear it's very accurate.

That will remove all that guess work out of the way, then I'll just be fussing about the humidity, but I've done decent on the last two hatches with that... the only thing I'm doing different this time is I'm putting a couple of sponges down in the trays so that when I add water via the tube through the top, the humidity will stay more constant.

Long day at work today.. Two long days ahead of me and then it's the weekend.

I got a new little blue pullet egg today! 3 Ams and 3 Marans! They may start laying yet.

I love it! It will take you a bit to get used to it, especially in the HovaBator. The temp goes up and down and you have to sorta average it. It is accurate to within one tenth of a degree. Think about it (the HovaBator) .... the heat goes down (and then the red light comes on) and the heat goes up .... the thermometer will show all the variations. So, don't go flipping and turning the temperature up and down..... WAIT !

You will worry about it anyway, I am guessing.

Congratulations! Have you checked to see if it is fertile?

That pullet egg is going in the frying pan in the morning, just so I can check on fertility.

And yes, I'm glad you warned me about the fluctuations or indeed, I would have freaked!

Well, I checked my buckeye eggs and they are finally fertile, put the roo in about a week ago. Only problem is, I'm only getting about 2 a day. Come on girls!!!!! Get with it!

I did get an egg from my new pair of black Japanese bantams, Don't think I'll wait till the 11th to set that one, though! I have some gamble quail eggs in my little brinsea, In a couple more days I will be able to check them.

Guess you just take it a day at a time.

I hope by this time next week I'm getting MANY more Ameraucana eggs.

Hopefully this a preview of part of my Mahonri's 2nd Annual New Year's Day Hatch eggs and chicks .
CX and EE pullet eggs next to store bought white .

If those are muffs sticking out , this is from a white Ameraucana over a CX pullet . [ The only way I could show yellow on yellow muffs was from behind ]
