Mahonri's 2nd Annual NYDHatch, watching them grow...

I have ZERO pips, alright. . .

I had 4 fertile Blue Wheaten Marans eggs, ready to go, but by the time they hit lockdown my broody girl decided she'd take LONG breaks. That upset me, and even had me wondering if she was at all broody anymore.

Well, turns out this morning I went in the barn, and heard her clucking from the opposite end as where her nest was. Checked her nest, and all the eggs were cold and leaking something wet. I cracked em open, and all of them were dead chicks inside. She abandoned them days ago.

No New Year's hatch/chicks for me. . . .

I could've had 4 beautiful Blue Wheaten Marans chicks. . . .

Our fountain froze a full half inch. The thermometer on the wall said 10 degrees. Brrrrr.

See? I am not just shoveling it! It is 35 degrees outside, and almost noon!

My chick is still just pipped, but peeping! Hopefully he will wake up the others. Cause you KNOW that first-hatcher is always a boy.

I moved the broody and her two chicks into a cage to protect her from my other evil chickens .. there is a pip in one more egg .. I dropped on that was rotten ..

The pip is zipping. I even got to see the beak peck at the shell once.

This is so cool. It is officially my second hatch, but the first one went very badly from my mistakes. It was heartbreaking.

Congrats to everyone so far. And for those that have not got action yet, there is still lots of time.
